World Cup
Brett Lee reckons that Australia's 3 express bowlers can take wickets regardless of the pitch conditions.

The only problem with this theory is that Brett is the only one of the 3 who can consistently put the ball somewhere close to where its's needed. Tait and Johnson really only have the ammo of the batsman not knowing where the ball is going. Unfortunately T & J don't know either.

If we make the semis I will be surprised. If we win it will be a miracle. Krezja isn't Warne, T or J aren't McGrath.

I definately agree with you regarding the bowlers but lets face it Brett Lee has had many years of inconsistency like the other two you mentioned.  He has come back beautifully and is bowling incredibly well, I hope he keeps it up and can keep doing it for a few more years at that level.  Johnson I think has moments of brilliance and I see him more like Lee.  I do think he can be taught to be consistent and barring serious injury he could be a great bowler if he works hard.  Tait I just see as a brumby to be honest, I just don't know that he can be tamed.

I just hope our batsmen pull it together.  This will have to be the last chance for a number of them if they don't get it together at this competition.  It would be great to see them win but I too think it will be a miracle this time around.

Agree Pete, sure will be a miracle for them to win.  I am a cricket tragic and will watch all the Aussie games.  Really just hoping they play well and not let the occasion overcome them.  GO AUSSIES

well , I know its only Zimbabwe , but the 3 pacemen are doing the trick so far ...its 4-44 or thereabouts at the moment

Kicked Zimbabwe's backside.

But, according to the ICC, they shouldn't even be there. Ireland, conspicuous by its absence, is allegedly the No 10 one-day side. If that is the case, why are the Netherlands, Kenya, Canada playing, but Ireland not?

The quicks have done it again getting the Kiwis all out for 206
with pace bowlers taking 9 of the 10 wickets - Johnson got 4 again , Tait 3 with Lee , Watson & Smith getting 1 each

And we knocked off the required runs in 34 overs. But the Kiwis might have been a tad distracted. Haddin and Watson did play extremely well, though. After they got out, the average grade cricketers could have got the runs.

Still worried about what will happen when we come up against subcontinental sides.

yep , I see your point PP , but so far so good , thats all you can ask for , and whilst the opposition hasnt been that great , the Aussie side still hasnt used all its gears ....hopefully ... can we call up Andrew Symonds if need be

We did replace Doug Bollinger with Mike Hussey. Who should have been included from the start.

If non-performing Ricky could be selected, surely Mike 'saved our butts most of the summer' should have been given the benefit of the time to recuperate

Has that been confirmed Pete that Hussey is going ? ( I do agree he should have gone from the start ) its just that I heard as late as today that Dirk Nannis is likely to go to replace Bollinger ...or have there been 2 injuries over there for which replacements are required ?

I'm sure they said on Nine News last night that Hussey HAD been selected as a replacement.

Just saw a story on Chanel 10 sports tonight that the Aussie cricket board havent made a decision yet , Mike Hussey is playing Sheffield shield for Wa staring Thursday and they will see how he goes and they also have Peter Siddle and Dirk Nannis on the short list , they will wait till later in the World cup to decide if they need a batsman or a bowler and decide then

I can't see the point in sending another quick to the spin-friendly wickets we are playing on. Hussey is a reasonable slow bowler option, if he's not too tired from belting tons, so he would be my pick.

Apparently they also need to clarify the rules with the ICC as to whether Mike Hussey is allowed to be included now , as he was named in the original official squad and then withdrawn and replaced by Callum Ferguson , they  may not be able to now put Hussey back in as he has already been substituted

Well Mike Hussey is the official replacement.

Don't need another bowler, especially if the hosts are going to prepare pitches like Sri Lanka did. I'm glad it rained. If Smith and Krejza can turn the ball sideways from the first over, imagine how real spinners would have gone.

Mike Hussey and Clarke are probably the only Australians who can play against spin, so Mr Cricket will definitely be an asset.

Defending not very many.

Lee 1/8 from 4. Tait and Johnson 0/25 from 3.

How are we supposed to win with inept bowlers?

We'll make the quarters, then get to play either India or South Africa.

Should have dumped Tait and Johnson, left Dave Hussey in, and picked a batsman who can tweak the ball a bit.

Tait just gave away 4 from Johnson by inept fielding.

What's that saying? 'Apart from my batting, bowling and fielding, I'm a pretty good cricketer.'
