Wonder if this might be a record weather event ?
A thunderstorm developed yesterday at about 1pm ish AND is still going at 6.45am the next day = about 17 hours.

Initially it was a doozy with rain and heavy lightening and thunder that lasted it's usual few hours and repeated itself a few times but since then it has consistently rumbled with lightening all night.

Yeah ok I have nothing better to do then to take note but my dog is scared of storms and has basically been attached to me since then and I'm over it .

We live in a mountain range where it's not uncommon for thunderstorms to bounce back a few times but 17 hours is a long time !

Have you had a thunderstorm last that long before ?

Not sure about 17 hours, but last Thursday week we had storms during the night, the next day all with torrential rain, thunder and lightning and we ended up being evacuated because the little "river" 300 metres away broke its banks, so take care .  We had another short storm a couple of days again and it gives you a very nervous feeling, lol

Sure is a strange weather patterns all around AU , even WA copped it a few days ago.

No fear of being flooded out here , with about 6 meters of rain a year the land is used to it and it runs out to sea . Just get cut off on the odd spot where the bridges go under for a while if the tide's high.

Neighbour went fishing on Monday and said the Oceans Temp was at 27C , not a good sign as that is too warm already and a sign that Cyclones will develop.
People have certainly had to battle the elements this year ! Stay safe and dry everyone.

Weather sure is crazy. I don't think we have had a storm last for 17 hrs, but sure have had plenty of storms with thunder and lightening.

I live in the Central West of NSW and usually buy now the air conditioning is going full blast.

Haven'T had it on at all this summer although a couple of times have put the overhead fans on.
Have actually put blankets back on the bed. Just hope I don't have to put the feather doonas back on as I had them cleaned and packed away till next winter. At this rate some areas will have a white Christmas.
cheers

issabella

where are you located?

I'm in Melbourne and today is the first sunny day we've had for ages. It's been overcast (couldn't see last night's lunar eclipse at all) and COLD - had the central heating on the last few days and the electric blanket at night. However, they say Xmas Day is going to be beautiful - 27C.

It's still thundering and an enormous amount of rain , worse south of Innisfail.
At least water here tends to flow out to sea so not a lot of local flooding. 259mls of rain today apparently .
I spend the day in Cairns which was dry until late in the arvo , driving home wasn't much fun.

I am loving the weeks and weeks of rain, full tanks and we have a colour that I had almost forgotton GREEN!  It is beautiful here although it is more like mid-Spring than Summer at the moment. Stay safe and dry everyone, best wishes Ella.
