WhO HERE HAS A PSP? HOW DO YOU RATE THEM?

Okay so master 13 has been casually mentioning how he would like a psp.

he has a ds lite and our family has an xbox 360. he wants to upgrade from a ds to the psp.

He says that graphics are so much better in a psp? have no idea myself.

For those that have them, whats the good and bad about them?

Welcome any comments :-)

Thanks

Ask boy  #1  lol - he has one of those too!

Think they are more older child - adult type - the games that is, but he'll know what sort of games are available.  Don't think he was rapt in the black case - too shiny and shows finger prints.
?? I'll see if I can get him in to answer you

My son started with a ds lite, traded it for a psp, then a psp 2000 then to a dsi and has now gone back to his ds lite. He is 13 almost 14 . He is out atm but I will ask more details when he comes in.

Hi, me again =P

To start with, yes the graphics on the PSP are much better than the DS. The PSP is roughly as powerful as the Playstation 2, so if you have seen any games on that thats a rough idea of how they look.

There are two types of PSP on sale in stores at the moment:

PSP-3000
-takes discs
-larger screen
-cheaper
-more comfortable
-can buy cheap games from the Playstation Marketplace, as well as full priced PSP games
-black shows up marks too much
-about 288 with a game
-has a laser and moving parts inside, so more breakable than a DS
-play games from any region
-pre-owned games are cheap, and often can get PSP games from USA for 35.
-requires a Memory Stick Pro in order to save
-battery life at maximum brightness 5 hours or so, but has internal battery

and the PSP Go.
-over 400, think they come with a game
-smaller size, smaller screen, controls slide out like a slide phone
-doesn't take discs, you have to buy games online via credit card or pre-paid voucher
-tried one at JB Hifi, very uncomfortable
-thin, but no moving parts so might be slightly more durable
-sells poorly, especially in australia so might be discontinued
-region locked, no pre-owned ability
-internal memory storage, for save files and games
-longer battery life, also internal battery

Both have demo versions of games available online, and can be used to play movies and mp3 files.

But yes, if he is into more mature games ( I personally prefer games like Harvest Moon, which is also on PSP) he will likely be quite satisfied with a PSP, but I would strongly recommend you get a PSP that takes discs, as you can then import cheap games and also take advantage of pre-owned titles.

Thank you very much gamesphere :-)

Tell me do the discs get easily scratched?

No problem, and call me Andrew ;P

Also, no the games are fairly scratch resistant. As you can see here,

www.portsidetwd.com/ebay/images/psp/Sony%20PSP%20UMD%20Game%20-%20Star%20Wars%20BattleFront%202%20-%20Region%202%20-%203.jpg

The games are encased in a hard outer shell and you stick the whole device into the psp. There is a small gap in the plastic on the back that allows the laser to read the disc =)

the problem with psp is the games arent fun for awhile. DS has addictive games. Heaps of them. PSP has little big planet, lumines, mod nations and some others. But games like god of war are designed for consoles really. Especially assasins creeds. I have the game and never touched it... Depends on people. I like to play block buster games on console and pc.

Ok, in my household we have lots of games and consoles, amoung them are 3 Ds Lites and 2 PSP's. My son is 12 and has both, and at your son's age i wouldnt go from one to the other, but would recommend having both as they are both very different. The PSP would highly recommend for CAR games etc, but the DS is the best all rounder IMO (just crap for car games). The PSP's here are hardly ever used, while the DS's are a daily thing. Far too many games available and wifi and group compatibility to get rid of the DS. Hope that helps!!
