WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK OF R18+ GAMING LAWS
Australia has some of the most strictest gaming censorship in the western world.

Is it for our own benifit?

Is it an issue of freedom of speech?

Should we introduce an R18+ gaming category for adults?

Is it morally right for the government to threaten regular traders for selling games with jail time, criminal convictions and multiple fines before even conviction?

I have had my ebay account closed, website closed, my bank accounts frozen, jail time threatened all before it could even get the issue to court, as it is a federal and a state issue. In other countries ie. America this would violate freedom of speech laws.

This is how I found out about the seriousness of the issue of R18+ gaming laws and became active.

What are your thoughts>?

Right about now - none, but I'm off to google and see what I can come up.     (When the afl footy show finishes, that is)

there's an ad on, but I found this interesting.

MORE than 600 customers at an Albury computer game store have signed a record-sized petition calling for an R18+ rating to be introduced for video games.

More than 89,000 people nationwide have signed it, making the largest “wet petition” since the one against John Howard’s Work Choices in 2005.

Game’s national head office and PAL Gaming Network have combined to produce the petition, which ran for eight weeks.

The petition is calling for an R18+ rating for games such as Red Dead Redemption, which has 18+ ratings in the UK and US but is MA15+ in Australia.

We are the only country in the Western world without an adult video game classification,” Game managing director Rod Lukic said.

“Games that are only suitable for adults are either pushed into the MA15+ category or simply banned altogether.

“And right now, some content that should be 18+ is rated MA15+.”

it has really become to the point they are just trying to tell us what we can and cant watch. Some games are not even violent. eg. Mark Ecko's Getting Up Under Pressure for PS2 was banned because it glorified graffiti. Blitz th League is a NFL game that was banned because it gave you the option to steroid your team. The list goes on. These are issues adults are fit to deal with.

Not to mention every game now has 2 versions of the same PAL games that look absolutely identical ,  the censored Australian version and the UK/EUROPEAN version (both made to share the same region).
It is almost impossible to tell the EUROPEAN FROM THE AUSTRALIAN VERSION apart, often there is simply no difference at all in the actual gameplay, but it is that difference in versions that will land you in jail. If that makes any sense at all.

also I would sell the European PAL versions of the game that say R18+ on the cover,... But no, the australian government wants me to sell their duplicate PAL replica classified version which gives the maximum possible MA15+ rating for the exact same game. Makes no sense whatsoever except to fine traders. Does not protect minors whatsoever.

Im for it makes it eaiser to decide what you can and cant buy especially with teens whom seems to play most things these days.

Now ive got mainly preteen children but have one teenanger who has lots of older freinds, talked to some of their mums out of interest and everyone of them was for it as well.

And considering the average gamer age is 28 to 30 its pretty bloody stupid really only having a 15+ rating as the maximum
just more signs of an archaic system that no one will change because its not broke so dont try and fix or change it.
funny that you can buy XXX pron from adult shops but cant buy an R18+ game...maybe they could give them a rating of XXX and sell the games in the adult shops lol (pictures teens lined up out side said shop handing money over to dodgy looking old men entering)
but also dont forget....if they had to bring another rating out for R18+ how would they be able to explain the ridiculous amount we have to pay for censored M15+ games in the first place.... well I guess they could add on another 40 bucks like we already pay over the rest of the world just to say well you wanted R18+ ...now pay for it.
