We want to go to the snow this year but not sure where to stay - need advise.
Hi all,

Yes it has been 8 years since we last went to the snow. We are summer people and try to stay away from the cold. In saying that we want to go to the snow this year but don't know where the best place for kids to ski, snowboard ect.
They don't know how to ski or snowboard so will have to get lessons or something.
I am hoping some of the Oztion members can suggest where to go.
We live in Sydney so don't really want to go to far (Victoria, NZ ect).

Your best bet as a family of beginners would be the Perisher Valley area encompassing Guthega - Blue Cow as well. There's a much bigger area for beginners at those resorts rather than at Thredbo. The front valley at Perisher is perfect for first timers and you can get a package of tickets and lessons.

To stay, it depends on your budget and how you want to get there. Jindabyne would probably be your best bet and they have everything from decent hotels to caravan parks.

As beginners I would suggest booking a package that provides everything for you. Accommodation, tickets gear hire and lessons. You need to think about how to get there as well, if it's a hard winter and you're not experienced driving can have its problems. Some of the places may offer transfers to the train or something like that.

Have a look at Selwyn Snowfields http://www.selwynsnow.com.au/ (about 5.5 hours from Sydney, 2.5 hours from Canberra).

I havn't been but is meant to be very family oriented and great for kids.

Was it really  nonswimmingturtle ?? .    We've got a mate that lives up there, he often mentions how cold it is in winter, its cold down here in Frankston at the moment but not quite cold enough for the heater to be on.
