Vaporisers
Okay thinking of getting a vaporiser to help hubs sleep at night.  At present using just a bowl with some eucalyptus oil in it topped up with hot water.

Been looking on the internet and what for sale on auction sites.  There's Vicks brand that from one internet page didn't get a good rating especially the "New" one.  Others I look at basically to me are just electrical bongs.

So who has one, what brand is it and how do you rate it.

I've always wanted a Vapouriser as well but still haven't found anything I like or can afford.

For now I find putting Eucalyptus oil on my pillow helps , clears the nose and throat and helps me sleep better .

Don't get it on your skin though as it stings

Me and the wife bought one years ago from a chemist shop for the kids when they had colds.

I recall it cost around 70 bucks and you put menthol crystals in the water or eucalyptus oil in the side reservoir.

the make is a TAVA steam vapouriser ... works great and we still use it from time to time.

Hope that helps

Had one for my kids too - not sure what brand it was as I bought it probably 20 years ago when the eldest first started getting croup.  Was fairly basic - just a big base that was filled with water and a centre bit that fitted in to it that produced the steam - were suppose to buy the special oil for it, but I ended up just using eucalyptus oil - made a bit of a bubbling and hissing noise at times, but worked well.  Only fault I found was the centre bit tended to float a little and it also made the walls a little damp so the wndow and door had to be left open the next morning to dry it out.  We don't use it (haven't for years) and I'd offer it to you but it's in South Australia at the moment and the boys have probably packed it away somewhere they can't remember lol

hi, when we moved from very humid Nelson Bay to dry Canberra, we had to use a vaporiser so 3 years ago we bought a TAAV from a local  chemist shop it was around $90 - but now you can find them online  much cheaper - We use it every night summer and winter with eucalyptus oil, sometimes even with only water - it still works perfectly and it has helped us a lot, so yes i can recommend it - cheers!

I suffer from bad migraines and lack of sleep. I also have a vaporiser which is great. I have also tried lavender oil on my pillow and in a oil burner.

The best I have found is Rawleigh's Ready Relief. It comes in a small 28ml bottle. It cost about $18.00 a bottle. A couple of drops on your pillow or a tissue does wonders

Cheers Kate

Hi Sheila
About 3 years ago I bought a new Vicks brand vaporiser for around $60 I think.
Got it from one of the local chemists.
It works really well and has helped out my wee one with assorted colds etc.
The only thing I didn't like was how heavy it is when it's filled up with water.
I learnt to take the water to it rather than fill it and carry to where it was to go.
I also had to buy the cleansing tablets which you use every now and again.
I used the specially made for vaporiser eucalyptus oil as it wasn't that expensive but you'd be able to use the everyday eucalyptus oil, I'm sure.

As Chloecat mentioned, they do make the walls & windows damp, so you need to air out the room the next day.
I'd give the Vicks one we have, a 4 out of 5
.
( Taking one away because of the weight of it when filled with water.)

To compensate for the excess moisture in the room you can place a "hippo" moisture absorber thingo in the room. You can get them in supermarkets or Bunnings. They are great. During the hot humid months they work fantastic to keep the moisture at bay. As for the vapouriser, I have one it's a big round one. Not sure of the brand. My mother bought it for me from a second hand shop around 20 yrs ago. It has been through 4 kids and my daughter currently has it in her little ones room. It has never missed a beat.

My daughter has a Euky Bear vaporiser that she purchaser last year for her little one. The Euky Bear Eucalyptus Oil to put in it is about $10 for a 200ml bottle and that is for 20 days supply. I think the vaporiser cost about $60.

She says it is great especially when the little noses get blocked. Helps the kids sleep through the night. Smells great as well.

Once again thankyou.

I have a big white one here with grey floating center. Says Kaz so guessing that's the brand. Bought it almost twenty years ago and we still use it if someone has a cold and can't sleep for coughing.

It's brilliant!!!

In the last couple of  years I've found two others at garage sales for around ten dollars in as new condition. Probably shouldn't buy second hand electricals, especially when they run while you're asleep, but both worked perfectly. Kids have one for when they have their own kids and nephew has the other one for his daughter.

I always just put Vicks, either real or home brand, in the top of mine.

That's the one I have Remayne - well sounds like it anyway - always p*ssed me off about the centre floating and I think I've used Vicks in it too.
