Hi Deanne,

There is no difference between the LCD & LED tv's, all new LCD TV's use LED backlight technology in place of the old type backlight. the LED backlight give a broader range of colouring for better veiwing.

When we looked at getting a new tv a couple of years ago one salesman said that one style of tv is better for watching sports or fast moving types of things and the other is better for movies and doco's.  Can't remember which one was which but that was a useless bit of info as he likes sports and I liked movies.

Also one runs hotter than the other so watch for curtains behind the tv.

Think that's plasma SB - they are hotter and are better for sports - so i was told.  Don't think it matters what is better - it is personal opinion.  When i bought our last TV there were the LCDs and the plasmas - LCD was suppose to be clearer - but to my eyes the plasma was the better one, think it also depends on the brand.

An LED TV is an LCD TV with LED backlights. These LED backlights or Light Emitting Diodes as they are also called enable LCD TVs to be made thinner and lighter while still delivering equal to or better contrast levels than standard LCD/ Plasmas.

Not only are LED TVs thinner and lighter, but they also run cooler than standard LCD/Plasma TVs and use less power, therefore making LED TVs a "Greener"/ECO friendly TV.
