Trouble with vodafone dongle
Hope someone can help

A friend is changing over from Vodafone to TOG for mobile internet.    She only has a Vodafone dongle & sim card.
She can't do the logging in with TPG etc...as she has to take the Vodafone sim card out of the dongle to  put the TPG on in,  and of course it puts her off the net.

We tried going through the-set up wizard on my pc - with the Vodafone dongle but with her TPG sim card inserted.
Unfortunately it went through the wizard for Vodafone!...not TPG.

Is there a way around it please?

regards
Ann

  • Is her modem compatible with TPG's Mobile Brodband?
According to the TPG Site these modems are compatible with the TPG Mobile Broadband Service:-
    • HUAWEI E1762 USB Modem (preferred)
    • HUAWEI E169 USB Modem
    • HUAWEI E220 USB Modem
    • HUAWEI E160E
  • If it is, she can download the Setup Guides here.
(Or you can download them for her, if she has no Internet connection).

Hi enzopr

We think that the problem is that the usb modem is locked to Vodafone so that even with a TPG sim card in it, it still acts as if it is for Vodafone.
My friend is going to get someone to unlock it on Monday.

Thank you for your information.

Hi Ann , you can do it online ( free) sometimes they charge you in the phone shops ( or so I'm told)

unlock your phone or modem from here ; ( just copy and paste into a browser)

Hi issabella10

Sorry to be late in answering.

We went to that site and followed the instructions.   We had to pay $25 and then press unlock.

The instructions were: Pay, Unlock, but not more than ten times or the usb modem would be locked forever!!

After 4 times and 4 failures to unlock we left it.   We then emailed Vodafone - and received an answer today.    In between that, my friend had gone to the unlock site and tried one more time....eureka!! it worked.

I hate Vodafone, all you do is speak to a robot voice who doesn't understand my Liverpool accent!

Anyway it's all fixed now and I presume that she is now on TPG internet as I haven't heard from her all day.

Thank you so much for your help.

regards
Ann
