tie
i recently bought a tie off here and it is all screwed up and needs t be straightened where the not was , it is a 100% silk tie can i iron it or any ideas on how to straighten it ?

Be careful with the iron.  Place it between a teatowel and iron it like that or alternative you could try steaming it.

Put the iron temp to very low ~ silk setting or synthetic if you have it, but also cover with a hand towel before ironing, Marian

Hi Glenn; Do be careful as sometimes the lining isn't made from a fabric that suits pressing. It may shrink, melt, or warp, even with a very low iron setting. Use a press & lift motion, rather than side to side pressing, under a linen tea towel, as mentioned above.

for any silk item I remember reading to sprinkle water on it put it in a plastic bag and throw in the freezer for a couple of hours then iron and all creases should come out. I have never tried it. I don't have anything made of silk.

I have since my earlier post got onto an elderly family member who manufactured ties here in Aust before all garment manufacture went offshore to China. He says my instructions were correct & to be very careful! Tie pressing was evidently a specialist job, & workers got higher rates for their expertise.
