Kingston is only a 20 min drive up to hobart.....and theres lotsa things to do in town on a wintery day, museum, movies, playing chess or draughts on a king size board in traafalgar square, wandering around the wharf ,maybe an icecream at mures, fish n chips on the wharf, theres not a real lot in kingston besides the beach and golf course

(lol). Used to live there. Go to Saturday Salamanca Markets near the Hobart wharves, lots of good stuff to see - well was 6 yrs ago! Used to be a market at Kingston too. The drive down thru margate, woodbridge etc is great, the drive thru Taroona to Hobart is not bad too. Good luck!

Heaps of things to do for children.
Have a look at this website that has heaps of kids activities: www.hobartkidz.com (its not a commercial site...just resources for kids in and around Hobart)

In Kingston itself you have a beach, a playground called the Duck Park, an indoor playcentre called Kidzz Bizzzz, a swimming pool, MacDonalds, KFC, shopping centres. At Margate a few miles south you have a great playground and BBQ area.

Hobart you have the Museum, Botanical Gardens, Salamanca Markets, the best playground in the area is in Lower Sandy Bay at Beach Rd, lots of other playgrounds too, The Aquatic Centre and lots of other things you will find on the website.

Hi there - apparantly the Antartica Research centre is worthy of a look but must admit I have never been there myself

If you can get to drive up Mt Wellington or Mt Nelson Signal Station the views are stunning, truly fantastic !!

Kingston is a very pretty place...the beach is beautiful if you'd like to go for a wander.

Margate Train is popular with tourists & locals alike....shops set up inside the carriages...great pancakes and specialty pies too...yummmo!

Salamanca surely is a must-see. Incredible markets every Saturday morning.....

Hope you enjoy your stay !
