Stall Ideas for School Fair (Primary School)

Hey everyone

I am looking for some ideas for my son's Class Stall for a School Fair in October....  Most of the other classes have picked all the "obvious" ones(mystery bottles, lucky dips, lolly stall, etc) , so I am looking for something a little unusual, that 10 year olds can be involved in organising.  Perhaps a clever "side show" idea???  I will be talking to the class tomorrow afternoon, so that they can "vote" on what they would like to do....

Once the class picks their stall, I shall be looking here at OZtion for things to buy as prizes etc. so maybe you have an idea that your items would be perfect for!!!!

Thanks in advance....

Julie

Remember the clown faces?    How about a couple of large rings set on sticks and they can toss hackey sacks through...   Or coits?  Skittles?

Something to get them active and healthy, too many go for the lollies and treats which a lot of kids can't have these days.

hehehe yeah...  I remember all of those, especially TOFFEES mmmmm...  however, there are strict rules now regarding food stuffs, so we are leaving those stalls to the adults to run...  I need something that the kids can have a hand in from Go to Whoa!!

I did the fairy floss stall at the fair one year.... that is so funny, cos you end up wearing more than you sell!!  Great money spinner, but the kids can't do it  *sigh*

Always a hit at primary school is the Hair Spray that comes in colours, Our school does that every year, and the kids line up like there is no tomorrow.
You sure end up with some crazy looking hair getting around but they love it, would be easy for 10yr olds to do them selfs

Also face painting, and the students do it,

LOL Marfy

We actually did that at the last fair.....  but with water restrictions, we can't do it any more!!  Our principal was great, she came out in flippers and a snorkel, and we "auctioned off" the right to DUNK her!!!

Chocolate Toss - chocolates or biscuits - throw money on them if they stay on the item they get it if it rolls off the school gets it.

Chocolate Wheel - this is the one I did for our fundraiser last weekend. Our school makes approx $15000 profit on the night. I went around to lots of business and got lots of great goodies for the chocolate wheel.

Tombola  -  lots of small items - prize for every second one - say even - pick a ticket if its even you get that item if odd you miss out.

A raffle - you don't need many prizes for this.

In 1988 I organised a school fete with the wonderful assistance of a great team. We had a frustration alley stall, where everone donated old china and we set em up like a knock ém down coconut show. Everyone loved it. Though today insurace may not allow you to do it, it was a great success for us.

We also got some stocks from someplace and threw wet sponges at volunteers it was another gret success.

Good luck with it all.

We borrow a chocolate wheel from one of the local clubs (football I think) it is a wheel with 64 numbers.  So each round you sell 64 tickets at whatever price you want (mine were $2.00 each).  I had 5 prizes for each round. The winners get to pick the prize they want out of 1st prize 2nd prize ect. I throw some bonus spins in as well.

The tickets can be purchased from newsagents (I think) so far in the 8 years I've been doing it I have had enough tickets at school but I've run out now.  You could use raffle tickets if you needed too.

So I went around local business and got donations of anything.

I had around 130 prizes ranging from $10.00 to $150.00 our local business were wonderful.

I put them into 5 lots - sell 64 tickets spin 5 times (or more if I throw in bonuses) while I'm spinning and helping giving out prizes the next lot of tickets are getting sold (they are different colours and have a different serial number). When the next lot is sold away we spin again while the next lot is being sold.

I did this for approx 4 1/2 hours and we did 21 rounds (I think).

Ahhh ok.. I have seen this done, just didn't realise what "chocolate wheel" was LOL.  I have a spinning wheel at the school, but it only has 30 numbers....  I could possibly do that and just have less prizes per spin??

Hi Anne....  I know that they did a "plate smash" at a previous fair, but I am not sure why they don't do it now... perhaps it is too risky....

You have as many or few prizes as you want, you charge whatever you want, 30 tickets will sell quicker so that will keep the show moving.

When I first took the chocolate wheel on there were only 3 prizes and the price was 50 cents with a few $1.00 spins with a separate lot of prizes.  I changed this to more prizes and up the price of the tickets to make more money. Made around $2600. I also took 5 prizes and did a raffle that made around $250.00.

Thanks Vicki...

We have been getting some donations, thanks to an "Energizer Bunny" (one of our mums) who has been brilliant.  I shall see what prizes I can get for a wheel...  I also want to do something more for the kids, and thought perhaps a "fishing" type side show....  with poles and magnets....

I wonder if anyone here would have something that would be suitable....  like crafty ducks or fish or something, that could have a magnet attached....  I shall have to have a look around!!

A bit different and also useful.

Firstly you will need some parents who have a laminater and adults would have to be in charge of this part of project.

Buy reams of A4 copy paper.   Crayons, colouring pencils etc.,   Kids can draw their own pics and then charge for laminating so it becomes a placemat.  Maybe $3 or $4 all up should make a nice bit of profit and all ages can participate.

Another great idea....  and the school has their own laminators, so not difficult...  Thank you!

Just thinking back to my sons carnival last year.  Some of the stalls they had have already been mentioned here but some other ideas are....

1)  A second-hand book stall - you could ask all the school families to donate any old novels etc they don't want then sell them for 50c or $1 each and the kids could manage the stall.

2)  Basketball toss - they had a smallish portable basketball ring set up in the middle of the courtyard where all the other activities were happening and a table full of little prizes to choose from.  You buy 3 throws for $2 and if you get at least 1 shot in you get to choose a small prize - all three shots in gets you a larger prize of your choice.  That was quite popular and they adjusted the starting position depending on the size of the participant so that it was fair for everyone - the bigger kids and adults had to stand right back whereas the little kids got to stand much closer so they had half a chance.

3)  White elephant stall - take donations of all and anything that families want to get rid of and sell them cheap.

4)  Mystery prize stall - balloons set up on a board with a coloured ticket inside.  Set up 3 or 4 piles of shoe boxes or similar, each pile assigned a colour and each colour with a different value with prizes hidden inside each box, so you would have lots of balloons with cheap little prizes like super balls etc, and much fewer balloons with the more valuable prize tickets inside.  Sell a throw for 50c or $1 - they throw a dart to pop a balloon and if successful get to choose a prize from the matching coloured pile of shoe boxes.  Of course, darts may be considered too dangerous.

5)  Dunking for apples.  An oldy but a goody.

Hopefully there's something here you can use.

Cheers
Tanya

I am noting these all down, and will get the kids to vote on what they want to do....  Got LOTS of choices now!!

this might be too old fashioned but .... how about dunking for apples.   Get a tub, fill with water put in apples and the kids have to try and get them.
Or for the effort......this is REALLY popular
make a horror house.  The kids did this one time in a garden shed  - a little bit of spiderweb goes a long way LOL. You could even make up a little graveyard on the way in!   Maybe sell coffin lolly bags on the way out?   You could also carry the theme with a lucky dip in a coffin filled with yucky slimey stuff.  (find the eyeball to win the prize )
When the kids did theirs they made a little maze through the garden shed and had string hanging down and kids hiding in boxes doing scary popups etc.

You could have a spinning wheel & sell the raffle tickets 3 for $1

Get a note made up that includes the detail of the fundraiser .
Take it with you & go around local businesses asking for donations for your spinning wheel.
