silly me....please help if you can..
I tried to move a pan that I had cooked something in the oven in. Now I have 3cm long  burns on 3 fingers. They have blistered already and are very painful. I'm sitting with ice packs but as soon as I remove them, the pain comes back. I want to go to bed, would some kind of painkiller work for this pain? I tried bandagng it but it was too sore.I can't take codeine.please help if you can, Sylvia

Hi Sylvia,

It probably depends where you are. Here in Queensland when things like this happen I have either called the Paramedics or taken them to the hospital. At least then you can get the burns dressed properly and they will be able to give you a lot stronger and safe painkiller.

Whenever I have alled the ambos their attitude has always been that we are not wasting their time as it is better to be safe that sorry.

Hope this helps

Deb

have you tried putting your fingers in cool/cold water.?
do you have any aloe vera plants..? the inside of this plant is very soothing.
I also remember reading to coat the burns with egg white it forms a membrane over the burn and helps it to heal.
do not cover with bandages just egg white. it will try quickly.
I remember when my Mum split the hot fat all down her legs they had big blisters on them but she wouldn't let me take her to the hospital or the doctors she was a tough ol Lady.
looking back on it I should of ignored her refusal and called the ambulance her legs were very bad. but they healed and no scaring.
can you take panadol ?.,

As  trained nurse, my advice is hold your fingers, or any burnt area under cold water immediately after a burn, for as long as possible, and then go to the emergency dept. of your nearest Hospital, (get someone else to drive of course).hope your burns are not too serious.....Puddi

Spade,
Dinner was a masterchef effort and turned out great even if I say so myself! LOL! I had to hold a frozen cooler brick while I tried to eat it.I ended up going to hospital. They said it was second degree burns and bandaged it for me.
They loaded me with ibuprofen and panadol and that helped a lot. Thanks everyone, Sylvia

LOL spade, sooo sympathetic.

jc I'm so glad you went to the hospital.  It's so easy for burns to get infected.  Hope it heals soon.

For anyone else that may be unlucky and burn themselves if you have a tin of Rawleigh's Antiseptic salve in the house apply after running under cold water for 5 mins or so and this will stop the stinging and also prevent any blister from forming.
