RIP LIONEL
RIP Lionel Rose.
He passed away aged 62 Years Old.

wow I would have thought he was older than that. He must have only been a baby when I used to watch him fight.

Just spotted this headline on scrolling.

He was a gentle man who was wary of really hurting his opponent and held back his punches when he saw them falter.

A true champion and deserves a State funeral.

Pisces, yes and he always came across as a very soft & genuine person.
 
For those not from that era, Lionel Rose was a true blue Aussie.   Marian

I actually personally new Lionel Rose,
his partner Jenny Oakes, her mother and father managed a small hotel/pub in the country town of Mernda in Victoria where i grew up,
My mum and dad both worked there so we got to know them all,
My sister and I even stayed with Jenny and Lionel when they built a new home out near the airport.
He also used to drive a racing car and we used to go to the track with him.
I think i was only about 10 and my sister 12, so is a long while ago.
