Removing tape
Does anyone know how clear sticky tape be removed from black and white photos without damaging them?
I have recently acquired some old photos from my late mother which have been 'stuck' into a book using clear sellotape.I would like to take these photos out to get copies made for other family members.
I had thought of using a warm hairdryer just to melt the stick so that the tape could be gently lifted of the photograph. My concern is that a sticky residue may be left.
Suggestions please.

I use a commercial product from the U.S. It’s called Un-Du and is difficult to find and expensive if you can find it. Try craft shops. I’ve been using it on books for years and it’s the most reliable and least damaging I’ve found. It is not 100% perfect and I have no experience of using it on photographs. If you’re using it for the clear plastic sticky tape, you’ll find that you can peel away the tape and you’ll get left a sort of rubbery residue which easily rolls off with the finger or a cloth with no damage. If the sticky tape is old and has left “burn” marks, those horrible brown stains, it’s a chemical reaction that has gone deep into the paper and there is no alternative but professional restoration.

Your post, mz-pink, was new to me. I’m going to try lighter fluid on some cheap books to see what happens. Thank you.
