I get constipated, can't go for days even if I only take one. I won't take them. Did you have a reaction to them Sue?

Hi Sue, I haven't taken forte since I was about 16, my father found me passed out and shaking after taking 2. After that day I tried just taking one and I came close to throwing up and passing out again.  Did you have a reaction? I hope it wasn't anything too bad.
Have a great night,
Jo :-)

I can't take them either. The  nausea isn't worth it for me.

We think it was a reaction to them, took 2 doctors orders,
10mins later nearly passed out shakes  all over made it out to the workshop I chucked up so bad hubby had to near carry me back inside chucked 3 more times, covered in sweat and freezing cold.
hubby rang the doctor they called the paramedics, they arrived in 10 mins fantastic response I was still the same couldn't stand, blood pressure up, racing pulse, blood sugar had dropped to 3 hence I spent 6 hrs in hospital on drip 1.5ltrs and morphine.
Worst experience of my life, but doctor at the hospital said he didn't think it was a reaction to the forte.
we think it was

Sue
I hope you are a lot better now
Everyone is at risk of allergy to a new substance
My hubby is allergic to aspirin and paracetamol as well as penicillin- his liver nearly packed up on 4 hourly panadol after GP said ok to taking more than 8 a day over a few days it backfired with sore bloated abdo, swollen legs and shortness of breath.
If he uses cream antiinflammatories he has to be so careful no aspirin in cream

The reaction you had sounds like you are allergic to Codeine which is an ingredient in Panadeine Forte.
My mother and sister both have these reactions to codeine but I can take Panadeine Forte for migraine and pain and have no trouble.
Just be aware of medication containing that strength of Codeine or avoid it all together

Thanks tupperchick,
I think you maybe right, and I will definitely be avoiding codeine based products from now on.

Hi Sue, you will find it's the Codeine in them that's the problem.
My daughter can't take them either.
They make me feel nauseus, So the Dr gives me Maxalon to take
with them to stop the sickness part of it..

Hi,
mysticmountains yes they gave me Maxalon at the hospital as well.
They said that if it was an allergic reaction to the codeine....I would have a red rash all over...and have trouble breathing as its supposed to close the throat.. I had neither of those symptoms ... but I still think it was the codeine as it was the only thing I had taken at that time rash or no rash.

Hi Sue,

My mum had a bad reaction to the codeine in Panadeine Forte.  We had to take her to the hospital, as she could hardly breathe and she was as white as a ghost.  It was very scary.

I don't have a problem with them and I have taken them many a time.

Hi Beck
I hope it didn't last to long for your Mum and that she is ok now, and yes it is Very Very Scary .....I was so pleased that my hubby had come home from his meeting early as I wasn't able to ring my son plus I had my 18mth old grandson asleep here at the time.
Don't want to do that again.
Regards Sue.

I react to codine and therefore if I take panadein forte I,,, I fall down,,,,
sounds like an alergy to me Sue,,,
a reaction to the meds causes shaking feeling sick etc,,,
an alergy will also cause swelling, rashes and possibly anapolatic (sp) shock,,

Hope your feeling better,, Angie

Its how I discovered that I could not take combination drugs like panadene forte - paracetamol+codine = unconsciousness/coma in me.  Had my doctors stumped until they figured out I could take them separately but not together, only a handful of documented similar cases worldwide.  Some drugs just do scary things in different people.
