QUICKSALES CAN WE DO ANYTHING ON HERE
I have been trying for around an hour now to edit items
i think i have been lucky to get 20 done
At first it was OK but for the last 5  6 I push th save button & it will do nothing
I have done all the clearing of history checked my download speed just on 1500
WHY does this happen on this site I do not have so much trouble with other sites
maybe it is because of all those stupid ads that keep popping up
Or MAYBE we are just getting so many buyers it is slowing it down (as if )
I am trying my hardest to restrain myself from just cutting everything off here & going where at least I am making money not losing out on it
So we get FREE listing but the service is rotten

It is this site and yep I too sell where at least I make sales. I have stuff listed here as well BUT you get what you pay for I guess. SLOW isn't the word for this site.

If you are having problems, report them to admin, they might be able to help.  The only thing this thread will achieve is another round of whinging about anything. and everything.  Quite frankly, if the site and sales are as bad as some would have us believe, scaring buyers away by complaining about it in the forums is not going to help.

Still think a lot of the problems are with computers and web browsers .  I spent most of yesterday listing using express lister without problems and I've spend most of this morning fixing listings without problems.  Also haver done, sell similar and listing items from the sell feature on the site - all with no problems - maybe I've just been lucky, but it is almost always the same people who have these problems.  Not saying I don't have some problems now and then - but it is usually a problem at my end rather than EL or the site.

I am definatlaly not trying to scare buyers away I would love to get some
In the last 2 days I have taken off 42 listed items & now I am clearing out to see if I can get some more sales
PLEASE PEOPLE DO NOT WHINGE I DO NOT WANT A REVOLUTION ON MY HANDS
I just want some sort of decent service
I have had a few sales lately but some people are taking upto 6 or more days to ay
Yet I can get paid straight away other places & no complaints about price of postage & can I fit them into an envelope for cheaper postage I get sick of hearing about the postage
I lose on some I may win on some others but most of mine is guess work with the post
I see people pay double the price for a lot of the same things I sell maybe I am not a good salesperson
Or maybe I should not try to explain every little detail on the items
I am sorry I must be in a bitchy mood today

Firstly , people taking 6 days to pay is acceptable , even on eBay they have that long + extra when disputes are lodged etc so that is hardly an issue unless you make it one.

Some of the payment demands made in Sellers TOS lately are REALLY going to make buyers look elsewhere , including false PayPal requirements that can have the Sellers PP account put on hold if reported to PP. Show the Logo ACCEPT PayPal ( sorry my gripe for today )

Secondly , unless a common issue is found that points to certain Browsers playing up with qs listings methods , qs not updating their website to suit updated Browsers  and people's PCs and how they are configured you can hardly keep blaming quicksales when so many have no problems .

A good free program that will help clear you cookies, history and files , data etc etc is CCleaner

easy to install and run.

Use IE if your having issues with FF or Chrome or Opera or switch and try which one suits the best

Frankly I have used all of the above  including EL today and have not had a problem and rarely have . It must be very frustrating for others I'm sure .

Tell Admin = ( after you have made sure you have cleaned and restarted your PC)

Which Windows you are using
Which Brower/s give you problems
What you were doing at the time of the issue ( ie listing/editing existing listing/browsing)
Any Error notices that come up
What time of day the problem came up
What copy of EL you are using

and anything else that can help . Maybe there is a common problem.

I just realised I have IE9 , FF7.0.1 , Opera and Chrome open as I'm multitasking and some work better then others with certain websites , I did my listings today using EL and FF  , W Vista HP and on a hp laptop.

>>most of mine is guess work with the post<<

There shouldn't be guesswork involved. It's simple really: BUT you do need to have a set of kitchen scales on hand. If you haven't got any, it is one of the best investments you can make.

If the item weighs under 250g and less than 2cm thick, it can be posted as a letter. The actual cost will depend on the size and weight of the envelope. You can calculate actual cost here without needing to know the buyer's postcode  http://auspost.com.au/apps/domestic-letter.html Average cost is around $1.20 to $1.80 (plus any handling fees you may charge).

If the item weighs under 250g but more than 2cm thick. then it must be posted a parcel. This will cost $5.00, regardless of the buyer's postcode.

If the item is over 250g but under 500g it will cost $6.35 if you wrap the parcel yourself, and $6.60 if sent in a red satchel (both interstate and within the same state). http://auspost.com.au/apps/domestic-parcel.html

If more than 500g but less than 3kg, it will cost $8.35 as a regular parcel within the same state,  $11.20 in a 3kg satchel. Depending on distance, it will usually cost less to post in a satchel if sending interstate.

(had to split my reply as it was too long)

So there are only really 4 different postage costs, but you do need to know weight and size of the item you are selling.  Cost of posting letters and parcels under 250g can be provided without knowing buyer's postcode. Parcels over 250g but under 500g cost almost the same whether sent in a satchel ($6.60) or wrapped yourself ($6.35), again without needing to know the buyer's postcode.

The only one which requires knowledge of the buyer's postcode in order to calculate an accurate postage cost is if over 500g. However, if you set postage as the cost of a large satchel, this will cover the majority of sales. Once you know the buyer's postcode, you can amend the postage cost in your invoice if you decide to not use a satchel and wrap the item yourself. This will save a buyer in the same state approximately $3.00. But postage is unlikely to be cheaper than a satchel if the buyer is interstate.

The only tricky one is items over 500g that will not physically fit into a 3kg satchel. In this case, it is best to either put in the listing that a prospective buyer should email you for a postage quote, or preferably use the built-in postage calculator for which you will need to enter the dimensions and weight of the parcel.

I would really like to know just where people are making money from other auction sites. I recently listed 30 items 'over there' and sold 3, one of which I have not yet been paid for, although the auction finished 5 days ago.

 Hi jyncarey.
I am lucky to do 5 or 6 - let alone 20 ! ( so- I think you are going OK - actually - for me- that would be excellent stuff ! )

It's my computer - I think- as I have had a slow one from day one ( vista )
I checked my computer % to how much free space I have - compared to used and it's 85%
I was told by "someone" it should always be kept around the 75% - under 80% - over it slows right down

I keep removing stuff but photos just take up so much space
plus- I have a LOT of other stuff on it ( files - MBs - zipped etc )

I think admin is the best way to help- but- just in case it is your computer- check the % ratio of used & free space and see if there's photos etc you can plash on a USB stick ( or documents )
My emails are a mess as I have too many saved too and I did a  " move to " with documents - only to discover it didn't take them all ! ARGH - so lost a lot of stuff

but- I have managed to move a lot off the laptop onto Flash sticks & it is making it a little easier
( worth a try ! )

if I could just stop downloading more pics- !!!
Hmmm - I might end up with a computer that doesn't freeze on me- non stop
I alsp have VISTA - and boy do I hate it ! Nasty & useless- XP was so much better than it and it uses up way too much space - IMO

I also have the cleaners & boosters & speedy system thing ( that I paid for - not a freebie , either )
and they slow mine down even more ( IMO )
 by running "scans" on me
( even when I say no - I discover there's some scan running- somewhere - so annoying )

Good luck :-) I hope you are able to work it out OK :-)

Danielle

I have a Vista Laptop I do not have any files or pics on it as I only use it to buy & sell
I do have one game saved on it which is Alice Green Fingers or something like that
I do not have a Landline I have to use my Iphone 4 as a modem live in Deniliquin
But if I go to Melbourne to my brothers it is the same
My daughter in Perth bought an Icore 5 for her other half & he complains it is too slow so now she has ordered him a 7 core
Whatever that means
I do not know a lot about computers & at 70 yrs.of age I do not think I am going to learn too much more ...LOL
Anyway case is closed as I will just try a clearance & get out
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUR SELLERS

magnolia, what about the $3 letters that weigh over 250g and under 500g and are less than 2cms thick.  Don't try telling me there's no such thing because I've posted hundreds of them.  I realise you may have accidentally omitted them but there's far too much misinformation about postage costs in the forums.

If you use the prepaid envelopes, you can fit up to 500g for $1.30ish if the book/cd mailer is less than 23cm x 16cm in size.
Not sure of the actual price individually.

I read somewhere once that simply deleting stuff does not create more room on the hard-drive because it does not remove it completely it just allows that space to be written over should the space be needed later.

That is why you often hear of police being able to retrieve information from criminals computers even after they have deleted the evidence. I suppose the only way to really create blank space again is to completely reformat the drive from time to time

There is NO WAY that you can delete any info from your hard drive as I am aware off
I have just done some more editing about 30 items & had no problems today
I am on wireless & we are supposed to pickup any Sattelite that is close to us without hassles
So I really do not understand it all

>> what about the $3 letters that weigh over 250g and under 500g and are less than 2cms thick. <<

I never said my list was an exhaustive one. There are a lot of variations on the basics listed such as prepaid envelopes, CD mailers, tubes etc and yes, letters over 250g can be posted for $3 as long as they are less than 2cm thick. Perhaps I should have said

If the item weighs under 500g and less than 2cm thick, it can be posted as a letter.

The main problem is, if people come here and try to use the site, buyers or sellers, and the site doesn't work for them for whatever reason, a lot won't bother to come back again. So it is important that the site has as few glitches as possible.

I tried listing a couple of weeks ago. Forgot that the editor does not like copy and paste from other sites. Reported it once ages ago, never got a reply as to why the lines run into each other. It's happened on two computers I own so doubt it's a problem with cookies or cache. Not terribly worried about it. The night I tried I was going between four sites copying and pasting descriptions that included things like measurements that are a pain to type in manually. The description didn't work, I just dumped the listings on this site as I didn't have the time to fiddle.

In the future when I have more time and enthusiasm I might try copying to notepad and transferring it from there but my point is, there are so many sites we can sell on nowadays, why would someone bother with one that requires extra time and effort unless they knew there was a more than good chance of making sales from it?

I woud strongly recommend you don't copy and paste directly from another site. They all add their own bit of HTML which is why it ends up looking like a dog's beakfast. It is always best to copy into Notepad first, then copy and paste into your listing. I know that means formatting it again, but surely it's better than having to fiddle around afterwards.

Now that's just wrong. Of course deleting stuff from the hard drive frees up space for more files. Check the amount of free space on the drive by checking the drive properties after deleting. The amount opf free space increases. Yes, computer whizzkids can sometimes retrieve data that has been 'deleted' but only if it hasn't been written over by more new files.

The more free space on your hard drive the better it will run. Free space on your hard drive should be even more than 25%. The solution is to get yourself a portable hard drive - just plug it into your computer via a USB port, and it will be recognised as a new drive. Then just move all your excess files such as photos over to the new drive. You will be astonished at how much better your computer will run.

Portable hard drives are not very expensive these days and have huge capacities.
Just checked Google shopping and a Samsung 500 GB drive costs $60, a  Seagate TB costs $85.

POssibly because the QS editor adds even more code than other sites. I have noticed if I go into the HTML after I have pasted in my own, that it certainly adds more code. And I don't use EL.

yeah I noticed years ago that often if I copy and paste the description to somewhere else, be it here or other sites, it adds extra lines between paragraphs and then has a hissy fit if you delete them and takes all the lines between.

I suppose it's good to be one of a kind?
