Price of Money Orders....
Found out the other day that the price of Money Orders has risen by $1.00 to $6.95 each.
AP snuck that one in :( without so much as a 'by your leave'.
$6.95 to write on a bit of paper !!
Hope it is not a sign that all other charges are going to increase any time soon.

I think I will remove Money Order as a payment option from my listings and substitute Other as I suspect a buyer
would get a nasty shock if they chose that option, especially on a low-price item.

I am presuming that 'Other' would include unused stamps, cash or your first born child as payment options??

I have only had one buyer checkout and use other as a payment option but she disappeared never to be heard from again so still not sure what it means lol

Wow that sounds very high. The last time someone paid me by money order it was for a $5 item and they forgot I had told them they could pay by new postage stamps but I didn't know the fee was so high now.
I offer payment by new postage stamps to my buyers and maybe it is the way to go for buyers to offer this for small payments as its ridiculous to add that extra charge on for money orders and we can use the stamps on other parcels for postage. If a buyer indicates they are paying me by money order I always write and offer to take new postage stamps instead to save them the fee.
There are still a few people who have no other option but to pay by money order.
Have a blessed christmas everyone!

LOL Ellen. Maybe 'other' is negotiable - I could get the lawns cut or the house painted in lieu.

Musk, I once offered a buyer the option of sending new postage stamps to a total of $4.20 ( 7 x 60c).
He sent 6 x 60c stamps and used the 7th one to put on the envelope.
I still sent him his item though.

I do the same as musk. if items are under $12 and buyer states they will pay via MO I always suggest they send me new stamps to the value to prevent them getting charged fees for a MO.

Money orders went up to $6.95 at the beginning of November.
I was going to get rid of my cheque book but am now keeping it just in case I need it.

I don't and I doubt I ever will. If that loses sales for me, then so be it.

But I do have online banking.

I asked a customer if they would like to send un-used stamps rather than a Money Order. They told me that is how they prefer to pay. At least with a Money Order they have the receipt and have proof of purchase. But $6.95 sure is a lot to expect people to pay.

I had a customer choose Money Order very recently; Then paid by Paypal without telling me & caught me unaware as to payment method! Must have found it a cheaper option? Or didn't want to pay extra for trackable post as per Paypal's rules?
