Postage using *bay satchels
Hi
I was thinking of buying a heap of the *bay Click and Send satchels for use with my Quicksales items.  I know that alot of people are sort of anti *bay here and I just wanted to know if you think it appropriate for me to use these satchels over the normal Aussie Post 500 gram satchels?

The *bay satchels have tracking included with them and I figure that would be a much safer option than the regular satchels.

What are everyone's thoughts on doing this.  (I also figure that because they work out a bit cheaper to post I could then pass on a bit of savings for thte postage costs while I am going).

Cheers
Colleen

Colleen, I'd like to know also. Only yesterday while on the AP website did I see this "click n send" and wondered what you'd actually need to do and what's the costs etc. I thought I read it was exclusive to the bay though so shut the page when I read that.

click and send satchels on quicksales - quicksales Forum

Colleen, this was discussed last year also, so have put in the link to the other thread about it. Wish we had them on QS. Marian

Hi Nara

No it doesn't work exclusively with *bay.  I have used it for a Quicksales item once when I had run out of satchels and wasn't able to get to the post office.  I just entered the info into the Click and Send site and was then able to post the item off that day.

The Click and Send enables info to be inserted straight from you *bay account and saves on time and I guess errors in entering address but you don't have to use that facility.

You can enter a person's email address and they can be emailed with a tracking number (I think).

The 500 gram satchels cost 15 cents each (if you buy a pack of 20 and order online) and postage is $5.50.  You just have to enter the info into the site, pay via credit card and print out the label.  I think it is a great idea and saves having to line up in post office queues lol.

I know of some sellers who do use them for QS buyers as well as their ebay buyers.  It's not something I would do though, I would prefer not to encourage buyers away from here.  Also I think sending a parcel from one site with markings from another is both confusing for the buyer and may well come across as a lack of confidence in this site.  I appreciate that some do have little confidence, but things will never get better for them here if they keep promoting their sales elsewhere to QS buyers.  JMHO.

I have been using CLICK & SEND for the last couple of weeks for my quicksales sales and haven't had any problems so far.   I don't think it would confuse the buyer if you let them know before posting. The word EBAY only appears on them twice and they can be covered with stickers/marker pen if it worries you.  I think the buyers are just glad to be getting reasonable postage costs WITH tracking included for free.

So if you were to buy a pack of 20, it would cost all up $8.50 (0.425 cents per satchel) and you could cover up the bay logo's on the satchels and they're trackable at no extra cost? Is that right?

Nara , postage charges still apply . Haven't time to check but I'm sure someone will have the rates.

Nara, the way I read it, you can buy the empty satchels for 15c each in a pack of 20.  You then book the postage online and pay $5.50 with your credit card each time.  So in effect it is $5.65 for each 500gm satchel posted, but they pick them up from you and they are trackable where regular prepaid satchels are not.

Ahhh thanks boo.  Doesn't sound too much cheaper after all. My PO come to my mailbox each day and collect/drop off my mail so think I'll just keep on doing it this way.  The perks of living in the country! lol

Ummm , it's not a pick up service as far as I know , you lodge the parcels over the counter or if it is then it would be limited to certain areas .

When you use it in eBay you do the whole process , ie print out and add the Click and Send option and you can pay then via CC or take it to the PO and pay.

If you want the gist of it it's better to go and read it over yonder as it is explained in full there  , I'm going to try it soon as my PO refuses to get the Click and Send boxes which would be similar etc except you don't have to use the eBay satchels.

I wonder if qs has approached AP for printed satchels , or perhaps as they do Temando maybe not . oh well their loss.

You can just post them in any red box, it doesn't have to go via the PO. You can have them picked up but that is extra.

They are convenient in that you can print out your labels and pay online, they are trackable and it will send the tracking info to the receiver for you. They also work out cheaper than the normal ones.

I use them here and over yonder. Anyway I can save my customers money on postage I will try!
I find them very convenient. And I love that they are trackable and have a signature for proof of delivery!

For a 500g satchel...Cost is $6.65 which includes
the satchel 21c,
postage is $5.50, and I always pack to get the satchel signed for
proof of delivery...that cost is $1.00...
So total cost to me is $6.65...
to get a red satchel and pay for registered post, I would have to charge the customer $10.05, so a considerable saving using the other satchels.

For a 3kg satchel.....Total cost is $10.56
Satchel cost 21c
Postage costs $9.35
Signature on delivery is $1.00
Using a red satchel registered post would cost $14.75

I take them to the post office after paying online. They scan the barcode on the label that I print out and insert under the clear plastic sleeve and seal. By scanning the barcode, it means that the parcel is in the system and accepted at the post office. These parcels have a tracking number which is great!

I havent tried the boxes yet though. I say in my ad that I may use a cheaper satchel to save the customer money. I dont disguise the e*ay logo tho. I too wondered if we could get some that say quicksales? that would be x YAY lol

You don't have to use ebay satchels or be registered with ebay to send with Click and Send.

Any box or satchel will do as I have received lots of stuff that has been sent through Click and Send and it was not from Ebay.  Postage is a little bit cheaper and tracking is good if you happen to need it.  Eparcel works similar to this as well.

I don't care what markings are on parcels I receive as long as the postal service can read my address and the packaging is clean and secure with my item nicely packed inside.

stumpy007 thanks for your post it explains it well .
I think it's certainly a great way to post parcels and the buyer benefits as well if cheaper postage options can be given ( the click and send boxed hold quite a lot) plus it's an approved trackable method for PayPal.

I've used the click n send boxes on 15 occassions & had no problems at all.

Have not used the satchels.

Eg of a good saving for one of my customers:

I sent a whole pile of books the other days that weighted about 8kg & was able to post these interstate for $17.25 including tracking & insurance.

The regular cost would have been $29.35 not including any insurance or tracking.

I fiqure that If I can get any savings for my customers I will.

I also like the fact that the buyer can be e-mailed the tracking & are able to track the parcel.

I've found it easy to use. Give it a go!!

You need to purcase the approprate boxes from aust post ( brown  B1, B2 & B3 ) & can post up to 15kgs

The satchels come with FREE insurance (up to $50) and FREE tracking.

You can pay $1.00 extra for a signature on delivery/collection.

Another bonus is you can track online to see where the parcel is and see if it has been collected.  I had to contact a QS buyer last year to get her to go to her PO to collect a parcel that had been sitting there for 8 days - she thinks she may have thrown out the card in junk mail and never saw it.

I don't sell on the bay but got heaps of free satchels before they started making you buy them.

PS. If you want AP to collect from you then you need to pay for the courier - I think it costs $20.

Why not write on the satchels and change the word 'ebay' to "ebay's opposition - Quicksales" and then put a smiley after it?

I don't think they could stop us using them.  It'd be discrimination if they did!  AP are already discriminating by giving a better deal to certain customers, if you ask me.

I doubt most buyers would care about it coming in the opposition's satchels, especially if it saves them money and they get tracking.  In fact, most would love the fact that we're benefitting from a site we love to hate.

I use them regularly on another site and love the tracking it gives, and I'll use them here when I get a sale.  As someone has pointed out, it is a cheaper way to send items with online tracking.  I do however let the buyers know their purchase will be sent in a satchel purchased from another site.

As far as I know there are no exclusive rights on the use of these satchels between e*** and Australia Post
