Playing music on car radio from USB stick
Santa gave me a new car radio on which I have a USB port, I was told I could play MP3 files so downloaded a program and converted the files on cd to MP3 but when I tried the stick in my radio I get a read error.

Could someone please tell this old granny how to get music onto the USB stick which will play in my car?

Thanks everyone

Ellen

Hi Ellen,
I don't know much about these things but have you tried the stick on your PC? Does it play the music on your PC?
Maybe the stick is corrupted?
Or maybe the music didn't load properly?

When you saved the music to the USB, did you use the correct drive? D or E or F whichever.

The only thing I can thing of right now is that the music may be protected ( if ownloaded from iTunes or Napster etc)

Try and save a normal music CD to the USB and see if that works , or try another stick

If that fails Google the Radio brand online and see if they have any help topics.

All the music came from my CD's, none was downloaded but I went through and renamed all the files and think that is part of the problem, it seems to look for the word Track, have got it playing in another car but mine tells me there are no files.

Will google as you suggested isabella and see what I can find.

Thanks
Ellen

yep that could have done it .

I would do a straight copy onto the USB and see what happens , it's quite possible the radio will just use whatever format it needs.

check your user manual I think you will find this USB is not for a USB stick but for an iPod.
I was excited about 4 yrs ago when I bought our new car and it had a USB for my iPod but my iPod was too old and not compatible booo hooo. my iPod no longer works.

Maybe your memory stick is NTFS format, perhaps your radio will only play FAT32 formatted USB sticks, if this is the case you can reformat the stick through windows and then rerecord the music to the stick and try again

Wow spade you may have hit the nail on the head because I formatted the stick an I clearly remember choosing the NTFS option, no idea why so will try your idea.

just tried..grrr now my info has gone off the screen, the screen is now all blue. stick would not play.
now I have checked the manual it states do not insert USB before turning on car it can do damage to the electrics... also do not take out while it is playing, so just be careful if you are using a USB in your car.
