oztion and paypal
It used to be that oztion items only got PP protection for items not received, but there was no protection for items not as described. Is that still the case?

I'm just wondering if there's any benefit to paying by PP when registered post is being used.

I've just read the buyer shield info page and it still only covers a buyer for items not received.  You would have to pay via PP to be eligible to use the "items not as described".  The registered post only covers you for lost or damaged goods up to a certain amount.

As far as I know, cover for non-Ebay purchases is limited to doing a charge back if the seller has sufficient funds in their Paypal account to do so.  If the seller does not keep funds in the Paypal account, then they will not chase them for the funds.  This applies to any non-Ebay purchases, whether Quicksales or other retail outlets.

Unless there has been a change I haven't heard about, this is how it was explained to me by PP some time ago.

From the PayPal website: http://www.paypal.com.au/au

Buyer Protection

Feel safe and secure when you shop on the web

When you pay with PayPal on any website, we can help recover your money (for purchases less than $20,000 AUD) through our Buyer Protection Policy if you are eligible and:

  • your item doesn't reach you
  • your item is significantly different to the seller's description.
I guess that would also apply to quicksales as OZtion is now known as .....

I've made a claim and won for   items not as described against a seller outside of eBay.
Mind you the seller, a large on line international company, nailed their own coffin by offering a full refund if I withdrew my claim.

You are covered by PayPal as ej stated , if the sellers funds are not available PayPal will refund the buyer from their end and chase up the amount owing with the Seller .

PayPal provides the cover for items purchased and paid for using PayPal.

Oh but something I've been meaning to mention . PayPal has strict rules about what is covered.

Items such as non tangible (  downloadable goods ie : > games - PC programs - PC program keys - e-books , gift vouchers , tickets etc )  are often not covered and it pays to check before using PayPal to buy such items .

Which is one of the reasons eBay do not allow downloadable digital goods.
