Not able to watch without being named? Anyone?
Just recently I put a few things on watch, cash poor, Paypal rich. I don't recall seeing the option to be an unnamed watcher at any point in the process?

I did buy; After each seller contacted me about the items I was watching. So this may be a plus for sellers?!

I've also noticed that all of my watchers that I looked at are named. I cleared clicks & watchers @ 6.30pm 1/1/12. I had 194 watchers as of 11.40am today.

Any thoughts anyone? Cheers; TTLG

Thanks D! I was just wondering if anyone else cleared clicks for the New Year, put things on watch & found they couldn't be anonymous? Is it just me? Cheers; K

AGK2000! You are a card! Plz contact~! I hope you're well!

You can be anonymous

when you put something on watch , go to your 'watching list' and find the item

on the RHS you can select      > add/edit reminder note > go

then the option to select the 'send a reminder note' and the option to untick " " is there , confirm .  Now your ID is no longer visible to the seller

Isabella 10; None of this showed when I recently put things on watch, which was why I was asking if it were for all!  I was just browsing. It all sounds so difficult!

I don't mind being contacted by sellers. I admire the kudos in chasing a sale. I usually watch waiting to ask a family member would you like this? Or a seller question as to which bank please? Do you accept Paypal? Postage price please? If they had the details in the listing at the time I looked, then I'd bid or buy!  & wouldn't need to watch! Cheers, TTLG

I think if you add to watch list from the listing page you get the option, but if you just add to watch list from the browsing list you don't, that's how it used to work anyway.

Boo I just went to ttlg's listings and put 2 items on watch, one from the actual listing and one from the list of items but neither gave me the option of being invisible.

I prefer to be invisible when watching, no idea why that was removed or made more difficult, just like when they changed the way of leaving negative feedback.

Hello Ellen
I am not Boo but I can tell you how to do it

Put the item on watch first then go back to the item in your watch list and on the right hand side you will see the word buy now there you will find a dropdown box

Just scroll down it and look for click on add/edit reminder & note from there you can untick Allow the seller to see I'm watching this item.
so you can become an invisible watcher

Edit: My apologies issabella I have just seen your post

Thanks monty, isabella already pointed that out but boo thought it was still possible to elect to not be visible from the actual listing, they way they have done it has made it a real rigmarole for anyone who does not want to be visible, I know I used to get a lot of watchers who were not visible to me which was their choice.

Just another thing that was working fine and they had to change when there are many things on the site that could do with a bit of attention.

I used to have quite a few things on my watchlist ... and I usually got round to purchasing once I'd done a bit of research.

Now it is a rigamarole to remain anonymous and these days I don't bother to put anything on my watchlist - as a result my purchases from this site have reduced. I did raise it with admin but seems they prefer it this way.

Hi all! Thanks for the replies. It all sounds just too difficult to bother watching anonymously anymore! I'll just have to be sure I really would like the item from now on! Cheers, TTLG.

I think the process has gone back to it's original method.

Just put something on watch and I was able to make the usual selections .

It hasnt Issabella. I just tried something of yours and i never had an option.

Dont agree with it at all  i put things on watch like czem.

Ive just removed some birthday ideas for my son, too much hassle.

I actually got a pressure email on an item that i hadnt even been watching for 7 days! i was horrified.

Good for my bank balance though lol

Well that's weird , I put 3 items on watch from a vShop having a sale on and the pop up came up for me to select the 'notification' with the field for notes and underneath to tick/untick 'let the seller know I'm watching"

I'm going to be very annoyed if this is a service vShops get but not other sellers . I'll try and put something else on watch from a non vShop .

Gets even more complicated

I put an item of yours on watch Kiwi and I didn't get the option to select anything , in fact it does not come up with the usual screen as shown below.

When I put an item from a vShop member having a sale on I got this

which is the old method . Seems to me it works on some listings ie vShop listings with a % sale on but no longer on other listings .

I personally think that's unfair , but maybe Admin isn't aware of it . Or if it's on purpose to give vShop more advantage then I guess it explains it . Can't see why it needing changing or whatever

I would never email my 'watchers' and even though quicksales allows for it (even suggests it) it just seems a bit too much like spam to me. With an added dash of desperation thrown in LOL
Replied by issabella10 on 14-Jan-2012 18:35 (Ref 2328684) Report
Yeah I agree , I've done it a few times but only because I was actually removing the items . There's no way now I would contact any watchers if they have no choice in not being seen.

Apart from that I detest the "your item is ending soon' messages .

I guess this is a push from admin to try to encourage us to open a Vshop, I just put some things on watch, watching from a Vshop as Isabella said is the same as it has always been but watching from either a listing or the search result does not give you the option to be anonymous.

There is no way i can see this change being helpful to sellers.

Well thats interesting, just  tried and cannot remain anonymous in a Vshop or Premium Vshop, but can if the Vshop is having a sale.
The only time I would ever contact a watcher is if I had reduced the price.
Something else I have found, I have a seller in my favourites, so does both my daughters. They both get a msg when  the seller is having a sale but I never do.  Marian

I just put something of ttlg's on watch and then I went to my watchlist and made it anonymous.  I had to click on the second last option on the drop down menu (add/edit note or something similar) and then click on Go.  Then I clicked on the drop-down menu again and I had the option to be anonymous.

How many people are going to know how to do that?  It might put some off watching, but many probably never knew we could see who they were anyway.  There are probably thousands of buyers who are blissfully unaware that sellers can see who they are!

I couldn't care how many watchers I have.  I just leave them be.  I know some like to have something of mine in their watchlist so they can check my newly listed items and that's fine with me.  I might occasionally email someone if I relist something but that's all.  Anyone is welcome to watch the carrots grow in my patch!

Edit:  ttlg, I'm watching the Irish Terrier boxer shorts.  Can you see who I am?  Just checking.

Something I already had in my watchlist is still anonymous.

Thanks for the info re making me as a buyer watching items, invisible to the seller.  I noticed I wasn't given the option to be visible or not (item is not from a vshop or premium shop) so just assumed they'd removed the option.  Would have been nice to be told about said changes!

I'd noticed the changes too and personally preferred things the way they were before.   I like the anonymity of my Watched items being visible only to myself.  After all, it's supposed to be my account.  It's awkward, knowing the seller can see I'm watching their item.  It puts pressure which didn't exist before on watchers.  So I'm going now to remove all items on my Watchlist, because I might never buy them, yet from the Seller's point of view, I'm a potential sale. I don't want to mislead them.   I feel the choice for Watchers should have been left as it was.  If Watchers wanted to be visible to Sellers, they could be so.  If they preferred their ID to not be visible, at least they had that choice.  Now, choice has been removed, unless Watchers are prepared to go through a rigmarole simply to gain the anonymity which should be their automatic right

I wouldn't worry too much.

As a medium term seller I've found that watches rarely turn into sales. And I certainly don't expect watchers to buy. Otherwise they wouldn't be watchers anymore. Nor would I contact them.

And I have yet to have a watcher contact me asking what happened when I withdraw an item.

And unfortunately sell it for more elsewhere.

I've communicated to my watchers.....I've had secret watcher sales...offering anywhere between 10-20per cent off!
And quite frankly I've never had anyone complain! I have quite a few sales because of it too!
I don't think it's desperation,it's a clever use of options in which quick sales give us to make sales!

@ Piratepete

As a long-term buyer who's purchased close to a thousand items on Quicksales, I can tell you from personal experience that Watchers very much do translate to sales.  Virtually everything I've purchased on Quicksales has first been on my Watchlist

Reason ?  Because due to the cost of Aust. Post charges, it only makes economic sense to combine purchases.  Therefore, if a seller has items I like, I'll place them on my Watchlist while I bid.  Then I combine those purchases with their Buy It Now items from my Watchlist.  That's just one example.  There are as many reasons for potential buyers to watch as there are buyers

Others might have things on their Watchlist because they have to check sizes, colour, etc. with a family member for whom they may be considering buying.  And so on

So that's the response from a long-term buyer to you, a medium term seller

As to selling them for more elsewhere -- go ahead -- if you can.  Sounds more like pique and sour grapes to me.  If you knew you could get more for them elsewhere -- you would

Anyway, my previously always full Watchlist is empty.  I see no reason for Quicksales to broach my privacy as they have by removing buyers' anonymity.  When Quicksales quit the desperation and see fit to grant potential buyers their right to privacy, I'll consider placing items on Watch again.  Although that's likely to be some way off and in the meantime, each month when I check, it's the same old items from years ago, still sitting there -- most of them *still* without item-details and including instead the invitation to email the seller for all the information buyers need before buying

Yes, Piratepete -- I'm leaving now to go back to buying elsewhere.  And I doubt I'll pay much more than on Quicksales, BUT I will have LOTS more choice provided by sellers who aren't too lazy to provide information
