be getting that other people have had at least with a new one you do get a warrenty if anything goes wrong

Definitely the new one.
Laptops are supposed to have a "life" of two to three years - so
shortly the reconditioned one is likely to be causing problems.

Also it depends on what they call reconditioned as well. i mean what did they fix? - could be only cosmetic

Good luck

Personally I'd see if you can get a new one , most electrical retailers offer purchase plans and extended warranties.

You pay for what you get , you might be lucky and find the reconditioned one lasts a couple of years but it's doubtfull that they would use a new battery which would be costly to replace.

I'd go for a desktop over a laptop when it comes to reconditioned. The problem with laptops when they are out of warranty are the notoriously high prices on spare parts. Whenever you buy a reconditioned item, make sure they offer at least a 3 month warranty on the machine.

As has been pointed out, brand new is the way to go. The minimum warranty period for brand new machines is one year. Talk to your local shops to see what they can offer you as a pensioner.

If you can't afford the cost of a new one then a reconditioned one is the only answer. There is a big market for reconditioned laptops designed for people in your situation. You are just as likely to have problems with a new one as a reconditioned one. With reconditioned at least some issues may have been attended to. The big issue is warranty. I would be very wary about buying a reconditioned laptop online, but that's just me. If you intend to use it lightly then i would try reconditioned but only because of your financial situation and only if it comes with a warranty.

" You are just as likely to have problems with a new one as a reconditioned one"

Such as ?

A new laptop will have full warranty for at least 12 months , a refurbished one 'may' have a warranty for selected items only .

Considering most places now offer payment plans that if you pay it off on time usually have no % charge other then set up fees and monthly account fees , buying new would have to be the way to go.

Also some charities may be able to help with programs they run.
