Linda, first off you need to check pool fence regulations. The fine for not having a pool fully safety fenced on 4 sides is now over $5,000. Its just jumped dramatically in this state.
We were going to buy one of those large pools for the Grandkids and changed our mind when the new regulations came in. They can run under the sprinkler as we have bore water, Marian

Dont want to put you off, but its definately worth checking your local regulations. The new regulations just came in here a few weeks back, right when Big W had the big pools half price. Marian

Hi Linda - I just bought a small above ground pool too so I'm in the same boat....i asked at the local council for the specifications re pool fences only to be told they no longer deal with this, nor do they do inspections anymore.... ( Tassie )
They advised I seek advice from a building surveyor ( ? )...maybe the council don't wish to have any legal ramifications..?
Anyhow, there's a lot of info on the net which may help you...I think the national standard height for a pool fence is a minimum of 1200mm . Have a look at prestigepoolfencing.com for some info but it'll pay to get proper advice from your council.
As to what you will need, i was advised to place fat (?) sand about 3" deep on the grass before the pool goes up. My pool is 5m round and will need 1/2cap of chlorine daily it was suggested. The man in the shop also told me it wasn't the chlorine that turns hair green ( !!! ) but the lack of sufficient chlorine so keep that in mind lol
Try to keep leaves etc out of the water also - maybe invest in a scoop net....
Can't wait to have my pool up, even if I do live in Tassie LOL ( I cheated & bought a solar cover )
