Naked cloths mannequin. - A real turnoff
Maybe it's just me , but I really hate to see clothes displayed on a manniquin that is half dressed. I looked at a lot of tops today
that were displayed on a half naked mannequin.
Surley a  skirt or shorts on the mannequin would enhance the the item being sold.

A half dressed mannequin could be a real turn-on for some people in our community
Just a though

oh this is such a trip down memory lane. There was a huge discussion about this  years ago here.

Myself, personally, it doesnt bother me on the bottom half as long as the top is covered lol

If the item has a good description measurments etc thats what im looking for.

The biggest turn off for me is clicking onto an item and having no description or no measuments (if clothing) or lacking postage details.

I use a mannequin, but if the garment doesn't cover the "norti bits"  I crop the picture at the bottom of the garment so they don't show anyway.  Personally as a buyer, it really doesn't bother me, you see worse in shop windows (and sometimes worse among the shoppers) at the local mall.  For example, what's with women who go grocery shopping in their pjs?!?!

Edit:  Disagree on adding a skirt or shorts though, no matter how clearly you may state "shorts not included"  there will be buyers who think they are buying a set.

My pet hate is kids clothes on adult manequins, with half the pic just being the lower part of the dummy, no need to take pics like that, without even needing to crop.
A bit off topic, but a while back I came across  items lying on a rug in the lounge room. The rest of room was all in the pics as well, and the room was so untidy!
The items for sale were just a small % of the pics, which was really off-puttting.Marian

I do same as Boo, i crop the picture rather than put on other clothing. And i agree the naked mannequin is a turn off and doesnt look very professional either, wouldnt stop me from buying something i really wanted though, but maybe subconsciously could make buyers click the back button?

I don't think I've ever seen cloths displayed on a mannequin... IMO, there are far more suitable ways to advertise such items.

Edit (13:08): I just read through your OP again, Katie... and it appears as though you may be having a shot at the clothing sellers here... by implying that their items are nothing more than rags... if this is the case, I'm staying out of it

The problem with many mannequins is that they are designed to be virtually hipless. I cannot display clothes for the lower body such as skirts and pants on my mannequin, as they fall off. There is nothing there to hold them up. Even if they were size 8 they wouldn't stay up. If the top I am displaying doesn't quite cover the 'norty' bits that seem to upset you, and if for example the sleeves are too long for me to crop out the lower half of the photo, then you get her in all her glory. (Not that there is anything much to get excited about anyway).

And Katie, what BMC is trying to tell you is that you missed out an 'e' in clothes (twice) and as written, 'cloths' usually includes rags.

I have 3 mannequins in various sizes. Sometimes it's impossible to crop a pic, as mentioned, if the item has long sleeves.

As also mentioned; If one puts a bottom half on the mannequin, the buyer often expects that item too, no matter what's written within the listing.

My plus size mannequin stands on a pole inserted up one leg. It's really difficult to dress her in trousers or undies, as it's a 2 person job to unbolt & then reset upon her floor stand.

My  mannequins have no lower "features" Though one does have a nicely rounded bottom. I think it's better to show an item on an appropriate sized mannequin. At least buyers can get an idea of what the item looks like on, regardless of the mannequin's state of dress or undress. JMHO. Cheers, TTLG.

I do what others have said...I simply crop the bikini area out ~~~

Maybe we can put a nice pair of knickers on them?

This for the men

and this for the ladies

Yes I too remember this discussion years ago.
It doesn't really bother me as said you see worse in shops and real life.
I try to cover my mannequin bits. but not with another item of clothing but a piece of fabric only coz I think it looks better that way.
Replied by remaynerecycled on 23-Jun-2011 15:38 (Ref 2300744) Report
well they don't really have "bits" they're non gender specific usually so I think if you're seeing something you find offensive there then the problem may be more to do with your own imagination?

I don't understand how a piece of plastic could be considered offensive?

I think there's other things people could be more concerned about around here, like the millions of fakes and counterfeit 'designer' items.

I certainly am not calling other sellers items as rags. I was just giving my feelings on half naked mannequins.

Hi Katie

Adding shorts or a skirt will make buyers assume they are getting the "lot"
so- I really don't think this is the answer :-)

I have mine cropped - if they don't manage to cover all

and I don't understand how anyone could list - with a full mannequin - and just have a top on it
and have the rest bare

seems silly - when we have zoom and close ups and crop - available

Of course- if they are using someone elses photos -( ex:  from some drop shipping site )
they mayn't be able to crop them - without reducing the size to a small dot - !!
so- maybe that is why ? !

I must admit- I haven't seen any on Q/S listed this way -
Not from sellers who actually have the items - themselves.

Cheers :-)

Boo

It's great to crop the photo if you know how  . When I do a shirt photo I find it quicker to cover the botton half with either a shorts / skirt .  I only take the photo of the full shirt and don't have to worry about the botton half showing be it naked body or skirt,

Cheers

When I need to photograph children's clothing I turn around a ladies sz 8 to 10 lady that has a solid flat back & use her as a model. Noting in the listing the mannequin's size & that she is reversed for pics, just in case the top half may look a tad tight or wrong. I rarely sell children's wear, so it's not worth investing in a child size mannequin.

PS/ my 3 ladies have names that correspond with their respective sizes.. Dotty (8-10); Dolly (10-12); & Dorothy (Plus 16-18). No mannequins are harmed in the taking of my pictures! They're almost like family members. LOL! TTLG.

Today I was checking Q/S 'ending shortly  items ' and can across the half dressed mannequin. I have seen this a couple of times on Q/S
I just thought at the time that it was not very professional. Maybe it is as you say ' drop shipping photos '

Cheers to all

Hey Boo...Where have you seen people doing their shopping in their jammies... This is a new one on me ...Just the thought of it makes my skin crawl....!!!!!

I rather like the jama shop. Given a choice between plain pants or something in bright colours with penguins or ducks all over I'll go the cute animals.

Sadly not a look I can pull off though

pmsl...mannequins have norti bits?
I really doubt it would be a drop shipping photo. It doesn't bother me either way though and i don't think it looks unprofessional. I mean if im looking at tops and it's on a mannequin, im not going to look at it's plastic nakey bits

I'll go the Zebra look. Long live Jammies.

Interesting discussion.  I remember i had a crazy lady years ago always laugh and make jokes about my norti naked mannequin i had never really thought about it but made an effort to try and crop the bottom of it if i was displaying tops but it is silly as its not like it has even a 'slit' there lol.  I'm not a fan of displaying them with other clothing because it usually creates the whole well i didnt get what was in the picture or is that for sale too.  You could always put a plain pair of Bonds undies over the 'bit' i guess but then customers might try and scam free undies with the purchase too.

In 10 years of selling clothes online i used the mannequin for most of that time and they were really the thing to have early on but now that more people are using orange tanned real life girls with big boobs to model sexy photos of the clothing the plastic mannequin doesn't really cut it.  I am starting to do more with clothes being photographed flat against a wall on a hanger and they do just as well.

What is worse in my opinion is clothes on a dirty floor, things in the background namely overflowing clothing drawers, and clothes laid on a dirty open bed where someone has slept, even clothes photographed outside can detract too much from the clothes themselves.

An interesting topic ~ another thing I dont believe in is using your own child in pics, and I have seen that as well.
Not to forget clothes that are SO squashed they look like they are straight out of a clothing bin.
OK, off topic, so am out of here now! Marian

Off topic but I have to laugh at the jama shop!

My elderly Mum's neighbour, a woman of around my age, goes out in pj's a dressing gown & curlers. shopping, visiting in the afternoon & all! I don't think I've ever seen her in street attire!

given a choice between teen girls in flannies or teen girls in high skirts, low jeans or a dress that can barely pass as a top (not so long ago my teen walked into the loungeroom and I had to explain, if you can see underwear without them bending over then it's not a dress, it's a top) I"ll take the flannies.

Not so much the woman in the pizza shop who opened her jacket while talking so she could scratch a huge protruding belly hanging over old faded jama pants held up by some cord.

bwaaaaahhaha remayne that last line made me laugh so much.  I saw a chick walking around Southland like that pale white flabby overhanging belly with blue veins running throughout, belly flab plonking up and down as she waddled along in her CROPPED top and overstretched white SHORTS in winter haha
