I'm guessing that is what she is trying to work out hobals

I think the pinkish one is just plain unleaded.

Hi Tracey

Do you know if the mower is 2 stroke or 4 stroke ?

cheers :-)

PS
YES

The petrol is OK to use- it's the oil to add you need to work out which one-
depending on the "stroke"

Hubby just told me

PS

The OIL  is  NOT  the same  oil you put in a car
special 2 stroke oil or 4 stroke oil - depends on the mower

do you know if it's 2 or 4
the mower should have it on it - check first

PSS
Hubby's  gone to look at our mower for you to see where you find the details of the 2 or 4 stroke

I always thought the petrol was different - but it's only different due to the oil added
( learn something new every day )

He just said he cannot find it
MOST  are 2 strokes

see if someone knows before you do it

hope this helps

what sort of mower is it?
the pink fuel would be unleaded
you can go to your mower shop or servo and get ask for 2 stroke oil.or some sell it pre mixed as 2 stroke mix
if you make it up yourself you will nedd a certain ratio of oil to fuel.
if you can tell me what brand mower i would be able to help you more

Hey, hi thanks for the replies - real dummy here

The mower is a 2 stroke...apparantly it has to have oil added to the petrol. I thought maybe the petrol changes colour if oil has been added LOL ...I just can't remember if any has been...or even what kind of petrol is in there

*scratches head *

I f you are not sure best to buy some unleaded and add 2 stroke premix available at most servo's.
Always when in doubt throw out.

Hi take-your-fancy

The "pink" petrol is Unleaded for a two stroke mower you need to add oil to the can of petrol before using.
In NSW if you go to a garage they have a small bottle already in the proper quanity you need to add it's a little grey/bluey bottle I think. Go to a garage and ask for help don't add any oil willy nilly you could stuff your mower up it has to be the right amount. Little bottle of oil is around $4.00 I think.
I kept my first bottle from the garage then went to big retail store and bought Two stroke iol for lawn mower then each time I filled my petrol can I filled little bottle with oil and added to can.
If the petrol has oil already added it will look sort of smokey-dirty colour but if its quite reddish-pink its straight unleaded.
If you are going to go to the servo anyway take the petrol can with you and ask someone there.
hth cheers Sandie.
edit> yeap totally agree when in doubt throw it out.

Don't risk using it, if it doesn't have oil in it there's an excellent chance you'll wreck the mower.

Don't throw your pink petrol out, keep it for when you need to clean something that's greasy (not your dishes or BBQ though :-)

oil ratio is 25:1
which means 25mls of oil to 1 litre of fuel.
how are you going with the mower fuel now?
Replied by ejholden on 04-Apr-2010 13:37 (Ref 2112632) Report

Fancy  .....

1. Put the pink fuel in your car. It won't cause problems.

2. Fresh fuel for your mower. Never use old stale fuel. It will stuff up the carby, even a Victa.

3. Always use premium unleaded .... >>> Never ethanol E fuels <<< Small engines hate sugar.

4. Always use a 25:1 fuel mix for your 2 stroke mower.
This means the amount of AIR COOLED two stroke oil to fuel.

1 Ltr petrol to 40ml of oil
4 Ltr petrol to 160ml of oil
5 Ltr petrol to 200ml oil

Don't forget to turn the fuel tap off when the mower is running & let it run out when you are finished.
Leaving the fuel tap on or fuel in the carby when stored will rot the diaphram.

Over winter, always get your mower out once a fortnight, start & run it for 10 minutes. That way it will work when you need it next spring.

Premix Quick Reference Table

Ratio = Percent
   17:1 = 6%
  20:1 = 5%
  25:1 = 4%
  32:1 = 3%
  50:1 = 2%

Sorry  kme01    That's actually 40:1 ....  Way too hot for a mower ...
Chainsaws & line trimmers are 32:1 OR 50:1, depending on the make.

Hi Tracey

seems others have come to your aid :-)

Hubby said if in doubt - just put it in your car instead

It MAY  cause some real damage to the mower & believe me- they cost a heap to fix
so- just stick it in your car instead

to get the right stuff - he said to use good petrol- not the cheaper stuff as small things like mowers etc don't like the cheaper stuff
they need a good quality type of petrol to keep it all running smooth- the ethanol does damage to smaller things like mowers ( apparently)

so- put in the car & pop up to the servo & ask them guy there for some petrol for a 2 stroke - pre mixed

forget doing it at home as there's a special ratio & I forgot to ask hubby what it was but you need so much oil to petrol etc

cheers & happy mowing
OR

put on a Bikini - go out there with the mower & stand there with a puzzled look on your face
someone will stop & help you

Cheers

PS

Ha -  EJ   has already said it all
there you go

Well, I don't want or intend to get into a debate with you about that ........ I am more concerned with someone damaging their mower.

Simple maths EJ. 25:1 is a ratio not a measurement :-)

Near the top of page 1 of the Victa Owner's Manual you linked to it says,
"Fuel Oil Ratio 25:1 = 200ml Oil for 5 Litres of Fuel".

Ah, sorry for not getting back sooner ( called away to see my elderly Dad ) ...thank you everyone for your help and advice, it really is very appreciated.    Thanks for the links EJ - I'll save them for future reference!

As for mowing today it didn't happen. Probably a good thing!

I'm going to take sage advice & tip the petrol into my car and be done with it. Tomorrow I'll start from scratch again & go from there.

Luv ya all, buddies. Thanks heaps     Even the joke about the bikini, hobals LOL

CHEERS!

Ripper, ej was talking about ratios.

And 25:1 is not 25ml to a litre of petrol. As ej said that's 40:1.

25:1 is 40ml per litre.

As you quoted yourself - 200ml per 5 litres. Divide both by 5 and what do you get? 40ml/litre

I wish maths was a required subject in schools these days

I know that Pete. I was backing up what he said :-)
Though personally I usually put 20ml of oil in 500ml of petrol, because I only need it for my brushcutter not the mower.

ALL engines hate sugar but  then there is no sugar in ethanol it is to do with the different rates of the burn & the quality of  the metals in the motor & the plastics/nylons/hoses/seals in the fuel systems.
