Mortal Combat (9) - BANNED
Hi all

just as a point of reference Mortal Kombat (9) has been banned in australia.

its been refused by the australian board of censors twice because of high violence and gore content - the courts upheld the ban on the 14th of march.... its rated R18

this makes it illegal to buy, import and own in australia.

just giving a heads up to anyone wanting to buy it...as its possible you wont receive it ... and may also get a nice letter from customs.

on the otherhand this may make it more attractive to some people lol

its typical of the childish nonsense of the govt.absolutely pointless banning games.i recall Manhunt being banned for the ps2,that was 1 of the best games i ever played.fantastic.kids can go online & see real violence, theres no point in it at all

Apparently as adults we dont need to decide for ourselves what we can and cant do according to the goverment.

There is no R18 in the gaming classifications because apparently only children play video games - the goverment or more to the point governor generals have made excuses and put off for years the need for a R18 classification because they ignore the fact that the age of the average gamer is 30 yrs old in australia and have bowed down to pressure from christian and family lobbies saying that "its not good for the children"..... they dont care that as an adult you want to have a choice.

South australia has taken 1 step forward and 2 steps back in this area because they now have a R18 classification for games and movies however they are now removing the M15+ catergory completely and all movies, games have to be put into a seperate section (like the porn section of the video store) with a plain cover and small type font for the title ..... also no advertising of R18 movies, games is allowed - such as Posters or TV adverts..... this also doesnt include titles already banned by the classifications board (like mortal kombat and left for dead 2) , they are still banned to ALL australia.

We are one of the last western countries in the world to hold onto a defunct system which has never worked, for the simple fact that R18 content still gets passed through without most even knowing ...such as the title bulletstorm which got a M15+ rating when it has R18 content

I didnt say you cant get the game through customs .... just that its banned here and that makes it illegal to import or own.

you may well be lucky to get it through ...but you suffer the downside of being caught and the consequences if customs do happen to check your package.... simply a warning nothing more.

Customs cannot physicaly check everything.

and yes your right....you should be able to purchase what you want being an adult...but alas the goverment doesnt think so.
