Mere Male needs advice on jewellery Listings.
 Hi all,
First off, this is not advertising as I haven't listed these things yet.
I have about 100 or so beads/necklaces/pendants that I would like to list, but am at a loss as to what to actually put in the listing description. They'd all be over 20 years old, some could be up to 60. A few are just plastic stuff, but most have stones/crystals (sparkly things) of some sort and some have stamps on the back etc. So basically I have no idea what they are made of. Some have matching brooches, earrings etc.
I know I need GOOD pics - front, back, overall etc.
So.......my question is:
When you go looking at jewellery listings, what exactly do you want to see in the description?  What info do like to know about the item?
All help would be greatly appreciated as my wife can attest to the fact that I don't buy jewellery very often and neither does she.
Cheers,
Rob

 Hello Rob,

I would be putting pretty much the same information someone would use for women's jewellery.

the material of the items - measurements - with or without a chain (necklaces and pendants) - if they are precious metals like silver - perhaps their weight. if they are plated or not.

hope this has helped a little.

Also list the older pieces as vintage as a lot of people collect vintage jewellery.

 Thanks Jules and Ellen,
That gives me somewhere to start. I think my main problem is going to be in what materials or stones they are made of. But I guess if I am honest about it and include any markings etc. Might do a bit of googling to see if I can get a list of the marks somewhere.
I'd say at least 90% of them would come under "vintage". They belonged to my wife's gran, mum and aunt. Some of the Simpson brooches are spectacular and I think he was around in the fifties. But I'll start with the necklaces first.
Thanks again, best get back to the camera.

Cheers,
Rob

Hello Rob...the main thing that sells jewellery, is a really clear and accurate photo....taken in natural or filtered light

Keep away from using a flash, if at all possible...and zoom in on your subject, or crop out all the other background...so the whole photo, is the actual product you are wanting to sell

Next thing is the measurements....nothing worse than somebody thinking they are getting a pendant that is as big as their palm...only to find out, it's as small as their fingernail...lol

And yes....list the material used...but don't stress too much about that...most buyers realize what good vintage costume jewellery is all about

You're welcome to take a look at my listings...I'm not an expert....but I do OK as far as sales go...so I must be doing something right...lol
