Melbourne - Tutankhamun Exhibition + transport question
Need some help from Melbournites

Has anyone been to the Tut exhibition ? Any good ? Any tips ?

Also if staying in Collins Street ( near Elizabeth Street) can you catch transport to/from the Airport nearby ?

Does the free City Tram loop thingy still run ? and how long would it be from the above to the Museum stop ?

Tahs

Hi Isabella, the exhibition is fantastic. The free City circle tram still runs. AFAIK the airport bus leaves from Flinders St Stn & Spencer St Stn (now called Southern Cross) I believe that there are other stops on the airport shuttle bus. The hotel should have info & "What's on in Melb" weekly brochures.

It's also Melb Film Festival time & Melb Fashion Week shortly. Have a great trip! cheers, TTLG.

Yep as mentioned there are airport shuttle buses running to and from the airport to Melbourne.   Not sure about the exhibition - most people I know that have seen it were disappointed - we were going while my parents were here but couldn't get in at a suitable time for us.  My daughter went later with her school though.

Think it depends on what you are expecting to see - most that I've spoken to said it was much the same a one that came to Australia  quite a few years ago and not as 'flash & wonderful' as it's advertised - I'd still like to see it though :)

We went to it and were disappointed. It didn't live up to all the hype. Enjoyed Melbourne zoo much more!!

Saw the full exhibit in the Cairo Museum (on numerous occasions - took approx 1 week to really see everything) and there are thousands of pieces that were in Tuts tomb on display there NOT the 50 or so pieces that have been brought to Melbourne.

BUT if you think you may never get to Cairo it will be your only chance to see a few items up close.  The gold mask is truely amazing.

Hope it more exciting than the Chinese Terracotta Warriors that was recenly in Sydney - it was really a huge disappointment.

I saw the other Tut exhibition about 20 years ago too. There are more items than in that one, but the entry fee is significantly higher even given the number of years that have passed.

Thanks folks , considering going to Egypt is probably something that will never happen I'll settle for the exhibition here

Still trying to work out if there is transport from Southern Cross to Collins Street  though , might be too far to walk with luggage etc.
