Just bought set-top + external hard drive....HELP!
Yesterday I bought a HD set-top box and an external hard drive so I could record programmes.

Last night I thought I'd try the timed recording, so I set it up to record Murder She Wrote this morning at 11am on GEM.

At about 12.30pm I went to see how it had gone so I pressed play....only to see the end of an episode of The Golden Girls!!   Probably about 15 minutes worth, and then nothing else.

Was The Golden Girls on at that time?   as I'm sure I did it properly.

I'm in Qld so tv programs may differ.
Murder she wrote was on from 11am - 12pm. Always goes a bit over 12pm . Next came the movie. Golden Girls came on at 4pm.
Cheers Kate

Some set top boxes will only record to and play back from an external hard drive that uses FAT32 file system but most external hard drives are NTFS, If this applies to your setup you will have to re-format the hard drive to FAT32

How big is the hard drive ? A movie can require up to 12 Gigabytes, a one hour show may be six or seven Gigabytes

Hi spade,

It's a 500gb drive and I've been trying to re-format it to FAT32 but it won't accept the OK!

I took it out of the hard drive and attached it to my pc to try and do it that way but even though I changed it to FAT32 it wasn't changed when I put it back!    Getting a bit sick of the thing and I've only had it 1 day.

I found that Windows 7 would only format hard drives no bigger than 32 Gigabytes, I had to download a 'partition manager' program to convert more than that.

Although yours is not this big I discovered that the maximum that could be converted to FAT32 was two Terrabites (2000 Gigabytes)

I think I'm going to  wait until my son gets home and then I'll phone him.

I've got windows XP legitimate version, and the instructions on the set top box say it doesn't work well with a split partition.

Thanks for any help offered.
