IS IT A SLOW TIME OF YEAR AT THE MOMENT?
IS IT A SLOW TIME OF YEAR AT THE MOMENT?

I CAME OVER THE OTHER SITE DUE TO LARGE FEES AND I WAS TOLD THIS A REALLY GOOD SITE BUT IT IS VERY QUIET.

IS IT BECAUSE SCHOOL HAS RECENTLY GONE BACK OR IS IT JUST A QUITE SITE ALL YEAR ROUND?

It's quiet everywhere at the moment, not just here - I still sell more here overall than I do on ebay.

Yes it can be slow for some.  Schools back in, parents received last month their bills from christmas plus the general economics play a part.   That said some sellers are having slow sales, some mediocre, some good and some going brilliantly.  It all depends on what you have, who wants it and who's got the money to buy it.
Christmas and New Year were slow for me but I've picked up considerably in the last few weeks.

Don't expect miracles just do the best you can using spotd and the google search thingy, even chatting in the forums might get you a sale.  It's not that other place so don't expect it to all happen like that other place.  Quicksales has its own way of working and you have to work with it to make it work.

Make your items Buy Now only as these get picked up by 'Google Shopping'.
The Buy Now price should be the minimum price you are prepared to sell at.

If you have the time, include a storyline in the description for your books.
Yes, most people will be familiar with Patricia Cornwell but there are some who may not be.

I also think its hard all round too. The last few months has been quiet  for me too, but I beleive that it will pick up again too some day.

I do whatever I can in my listings. I accept bank  dep, paypal, cash on pick up, bidding option to the make an offer to buy it now with all items. I think when you are a seller, you have to be flexible to some extent too, to get a sale.

Oh I agree with Marie,  Make some of your items just Buy it Now priced.  From someone finding you with google search they will most likely click on other items for sale and see then your complete range.

Hi Tassiegirl5,

I would be tempted to list the books individually.  I found, as a bookseller for quite a few years, people don't want to spend a lot on bulk books - they expect a bargain.  When I stopped selling used books on *bay, I bulk listed over 1000 books and ended up selling them for about $200 - I couldn't get rid of them!  The same applied with bulk listings of specific authors or genres, unless they were Mills & Boon.

These days, book selling is tough for Australian sellers, we have to compete with overseas companies selling new books cheaper than we can and offer free postage so, we have to offer that something extra - I don't know what that is because I went back to stained glass lol!

I always include the synopsis, whether in text or a photo of the back of the book - photo is included in the description.  This way, a buyer can read the synopsis and get an idea of the condition of the book.

Check out other sellers listings, there are some fantastic booksellers on here who have migrated from the otherside, and hopefully, they've brought their customers with them.

'GOOGLE SHOPPING' is a separate section to the general google search.
Open a google browser page (is that what they are called) and up the top you will see:
Search Images Videos Maps New Shopping Gmail More.

It is in Google Shopping that items with a Buy Now only will show.
Check out quicksales Announcements for the notice about this great function.

Sometimes it takes a while to get started, and after that it depends a lot on what your selling and how good your listings are.

I've had two really good months and I don't accept paypal.  If they want it they'll make the effort to do the bank transfer.

Google shopping is different to google.  I'm not sure how many people would use it but BIN items show up on google shopping so make sure you use relevant keywords in the title.  I've had a lot of newbies buy from me so some of them would find me through google.  Some probably find me from ads on ebay.

Also you can 'share' your listings on Facebook

Each listing has a fb link that you can click on and show the listing on your fb page.

Everytime I do one the item gets at least 15-25 additional clicks overnight and occasionally I get contacted for a sale via fb.

You have to do what you can to be seen

Issabella, I totally agree with you. I just did that with an item of mine that finishes tonight.

We have to do everything we possibly can think of to sell.

Can I suggest you don't type everything in capitals. This is regarded as 'shouting' on a web page, and is also is much harder to read than lower case letters. This applies to the descriptions in your listings as well as messages here on the forum.

With your book sets, it would be better to at least list the titles in the collection, as well as a synopsis of the stories.

I also noticed there was no postage cost provided - you MUST include postage - use the calculated postage facility if they don't fit in a satchel.

Finally, I think you would do better with the books if you listed them separately or at least in smaller sets.

No it's not!

Just look at all the responses you're getting to your post.

I can't see what you're complaining about. You've had  6 sales with only 100 or so listings.
That's fantastic for this site.
Specially with prices over $1 each.

I have to agree and its not with you shadowlurcher.  I find its good here I have quiet weeks and I have good weeks.
Also quiet compared to what?  I've been on other sites to sell other items to what I sell here.  I do better here.  Eb costs are not good for low priced items.  The tree you get more deadbeat queries than real ones.

No Quicksales is good.  If you don't like it then why stay?  There I've said it.

The buyers are around, and lots of new ones too.   Although, my repeat buyers are excellent :)
Most are using Paypal now, it's just another part of  the cost of online selling and you have to allow for that in your prices as with all other associated costs.

I have to agree with dezirable. For some reason the last four weeks have been excellent for me – quality, collectable used books have been selling, and several of the higher-priced titles as well.

I’m still not sure about Google shopping. I’ve certainly searched for some of my own scarce titles (all buy-it-now) and couldn’t find them. On the other hand, they have shown up on standard Google searches, very often on the first page, quite often in the first three links and very occasionally no. 1.

For the last few months now I’ve been listing books under title and author in the “Title” line, something that we were advised never to do (at least for non-fiction) years ago. I’m sure that accounts for some of the increase in my sales – people seem to be searching for the specific title, not just general subject searches.

There’s also the problem of buyers being able to find not just the site but your own listings. I can’t seem to get much above 500 and I can list only a few a day, so my listings get swamped in the huge downloads. Haven’t really come up with an answer to that one yet but I’m thinking.

I suspect that’s why I get far fewer clicks than I used to, yet the strange thing is that more of my books are selling!

I have to agree as well about the new members. I’d say nineteen out of my last 20 buyers have been new members. As I’ve continually said, the market is out there, we sellers just have to find it.

Best wishes to all.

S

Very slow.  I too have only had my loyal repeat customers.  The rest non payers which the site does nothing about. Not impressed so not listing any more on here til it picks up again.

lol, thats a bit rich isn't it feelin?

My sales have picked up over the last few weeks especially to new buyers.   You can check my ratings LEFT if you want to see the percentage of new buyers to established ones cause I always put a comment and then "welcome to quicksales".  It helps me keep a check on things :)

It looks to me that this place is heavily biased toward the V-Shop sellers. Leaving the non V-Shop seller out in the cold.
You get what you pay for I guess.
