Ipod touch what is the latest generation of one? Is a new one going to be released soon?

Hi so a question for you- debating on an ipod for one of the children and would buy accesseries for it but what is the latest generation one?

Some say compatable with 1, 2nd or 3rd generation is there any more i had a feeling there was a 4th one??

Also does anyone know if a newer one will be coming out soon? (I dont want to buy one if a new one is about to come out- I would wait for the new one)

If i didnt go the Ipod way is there another brand of touch style mp3 that anyone can recommend- Im not really into this yet so would appreciated the heads up lol

Kiwi, my daughter says there is a 5th generation of Ipod touch that's just come out, starting at $219 for 8gb.  I asked what she thought about buying a different brand, she said not to bother. Apple has a far superior product that will give many many years of use. The kids will probably want an upgrade before the product is worn out!

Nara wow gen 5 i really have to get up to speed with all these gadgets lol- I did debate about mp3 etc but think you are probably right in the fact that Apple may be the best way to go.

Do you think an 8GB would be suffcient? we are only newbies with all this lol

If you were just using for music, you could get thousands of songs on it!  But because there are so many more applications on it (games and recording as well as texting), they'll use up more space if used.  Daughters first one was an ipod nano 4th with 8gb and it wasn't enough space so she's now upgraded ipod touch 4th gen with 32gb and loving it!!! lol
