Importing items from eBay & photos disappear
Can someone please tell me why do the photos need to be uploaded to all listings if they have been imported from eBay via express lister as I have just wasted a lot of time editing the listings when it would have been quicker to just create the listings via quicksales.

Look forward to your replies.

Thanks

The images on the original listings were hosted by eBay... who own the bandwidth.

Once you list the items here, the images need to be hosted by quicksales... who own the bandwidth for this site.

The EL import function retains the basic listing design, text and layout... but not the images (except those in the description which are self hosted).

If your quicksales listing uses an image which is hosted by another site without their permission... this is known as "hotlinking". Hotlinking is also known as stealing somebody's bandwidth... and is not only unethical, but in most cases may actually be illegal.

I hope this makes sense... but feel free to google the terms for further information

I should also add... any work you do within EL is not a waste of your time... as EL retains every listing for future use, modification, update, tweak, etc... right up until such time as you decide to delete any/all of them.

Besides, it would have taken considerably longer for you to create every listing from scratch than it did for you to import and edit them... and it only takes a few seconds to upload each of your images using EL, anyway... it really is much, much, much quicker and reliable than the picture uploader... so chin up, eh

I understand the why now..thx bmc
what I do is copy the html from turbo lister or ebay to EL. That is for photos I host thru photobucket. I just delete the html on the ad in EL and copy and paste the entire ad with pics links. works for me. Time consuming but once u get used to it its ok.
I love EL and wouldnt be without it. I host my pics on PB so i dont understand y they are not copied over, coz ebay are not hosting them!
does my answer make sense? its quite late for me lol

You're welcome, stumpy007

Further to my previous posts... the EL program has some type of setting which removes part of the image URL.  I am unsure if this setting is a form of a glitch, or in fact deliberate... although to avoid liability in any copyright issues, I suspect it could be the latter... and nevertheless, it is clearly apparent.  I have found this even happens to some (but not all) images within the listing description.

As an example... some time in the past, the "welcome" gifs on some of my listing templates turned into pizza boxes... to the best of my knowledge, this only happened with one image URL out of the thousands I usually have active at any given time. Upon closer examination, I found that the source code had been edited to remove the following part of the URL "http://www.bitemycrankshaft.com/images/"

The result was that the modified code was now looking for the image on the quicksales servers (where it doesn't exist)... rather than being directed to the actual image location on my self hosted site. I had to manually edit every listing (both live and in EL) to re-insert the missing part of the code... and cause the images to reappear.

Yes, it was a very time consuming process (even using the C&P function)... and perhaps even somewhat unnecessary (had EL not modified my source code)... but the result was that my listings once again appear the way I originally designed them... so it certainly wasn't a waste of my time.

I found it interesting too. Last time I had a problem that was caused by changed codes I was told in no uncertain terms by some forum regulars that it couldn't possibly have been quicksales' fault, and that I must have somehow done something to the listings myself.

Thank you for your detailed reply, it was very much appreciated. Now I understand why the photos need to be uploaded again.
Kind Regards
Karely

Have just discoverd how to export from ebay & then import to Oztion whilst retaining photo images. When exporting through eBay this time I saved them as a Turbo Lister File (CSV) & was able to retain the images. This has saved me so much time.
