import back up files to restore EL ?
I'm hoping somebody can help...

Computer died, went off to the shop, was told everything would be reinstalled as before.
Came back without EL on it.

Have downloaded current version & thought I would be able to import my most recent back up file from mid Feb, but it only seems to allow imports, from current selling, unsold or by item number
is there anyway I can import from the back up file? If not, what good is a back up file.

Thanks to anyone that can help, I'm quietly freaking out here

Are you trying to Import using Tools, as per picture below?  When you click on the Vers 2.0, it will open up your computer location files (I just tried it and it worked for me), then find where you backed up your EL database and follow the prompts.

When you are backing up your EL database, it is better to do it in smaller "chunks".  I have found EL handles importing and exporting the files in small "chunks".  I do mine mostly alphabetically and have found it saves and imports much more swiftly.

If you have tried this and you can definitely find your EL backup data (xxxx.xml files) on your hard drive, it is going to have to be a question for the quicksales techs.

Huge hugs & kisses, thank you so much.  I thought that because it was a fresh download it would be empty, didn't realise I could navigate to the back up folder, should have tried clicking on it earlier.

Have a great weekend and thanks again!!!!

Check all your pics as EL tends to lose them when you import from the database.  Been there done that over the last couple of months.

is correct in that you will probably not have your Thumbnail pictures, or the incorrect thumbnail picture.  Any pictures you have in the actual Description should be okay, but checking the Description would be advisable.

If you are using your photobucket pictures as your Thumbnail (or 3 free pictures), there is a fairly simple way of putting them back without having to open photobucket and retrieve them.  The easy way of doing it is:

1.  Check Description that pictures are correct.

2.  In the little peach coloured box, scroll down about an inch (or 2 cms) and you will find the photobucket http url for the picture.

3.  Highlight the url (as per photo below) and copy (ctrl + c) and paste it (ctrl + v) in the first picture URL box and load.  Be careful not to pick up the quotation marks, just the actual url.

I only ever use the one thumbnail, but if you use all three, the other photobucket images will be in the same place, one under another and you can use the copy and paste to put all three pictures back as thumbnails.

I have used this method a lot as previous versions of EL were unstable and I have survived a few crashes and the frustration of loosing thumbnails.

I am unsure whether the method above would work with thumbnails off your computer.  I have never used pictures off my computer for thumbnails, but the above method definitely works for photobucket images.

Hi,

My trial software can backup XML files and also save the thumbnail images to a database file. You can also extract the images to a folder along with the XML files.

Please send me message if you need more info.
