HP 1050 printer problem any help greatly appreciated
Hi all I have a deskjet 1050 printer which is fairly new, I put in 2 new ink cartridges today as the black had run out and the colour was about to.
all I get now is a "ink cartridge failure" and 'please replace'.
I have cleaned the surfaces between the cartridges and where they fit onto the carriage but no difference, has anyone had this problem? and did you find a solution?

Does it operate and print though ? My Cannon still says that after about the 7th cartridge change but it prints and operates normally .

yes I took the tabs off, had a giggle at that :-)
and no it won't continue to print after or with the error window open I thought it might be a software issue and have uninstalled and reinstalled from the dvd and also updated, I have just about decided its another HP printer in the bin, you think Id learn and not buy hp.

I too have a HP and the scan feature no longer works. Whatever you do, be very careful if you do a Google search for HP technicians and call them up! The ones I called actually weren't HP!! Wanted access to my computer and all sorts of stuff! Anyway, I found out the only way I can now scan is through my normal Paint program. I just open Paint, choose FILE, then FROM SCANNER OR CAMERA, then click on the HP printer and away she goes! I did try the uninstall and re-install and updating but nothing worked!
I did a Google search for you and it
mentions
a few things to check for...
Make sure your printer isn't set to Pause Printing or Use printer offline.
Make sure it's the default printer.
Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
Make sure there isn't a tiny bit of paper jammed.
You may have a defective cartridge. Remove the black and close the cartridge door. If the ON light blinks, the tri-colour cartridge should be replaced. If the ON light does not blink, replace the black.

Whenever I have probs with my HP printer that I cant fix..even tho I can view the manual online...I just restart the computer!!
It works every time
O another thing...when I replace my carts...I have to have a piece of paper in the tray coz it prints out a piece of paper that I have to scan to align everything properly. If there is no paper in the tray it goes Bananas grr.

The HP deskjet printers have a habit of having a dummy spit every now and then and decide in their own good time when to start printing properly again.
I haven't had the cartridge failure message as yet but wonder if you heard the cartridges click in place when you put them in as that's when they are in place properly.
Next cancel all the printing jobs still in line and turn the printer on and off a couple of times (pull the plug out even) or other wise turn the PC off and on again.
You'll find that will suddenly fix it.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I had tried everything mentioned so I have just left it sitting plugged in with the new cartridges in it and hope it may decide to fix itself!
I reckon its a bin job though, even though they are fairly cheap printers dont seem to last, I have never had one last 2 years, it seems within months of the warranty running out they start having probs, I dont do that much printing either.

Hello.We had the same problem not so long ago.
We put it down to the extremely hot weather we had
and that the ink cartridges dried out so off we went
and got a refund on the cartridges bought the new
ones home and they worked. Maybe they have dried
fried out!

hiya bananas,
both red cartridge lights are now blinking, just before I changed them the black one ran out and its light was blinking and the colour was just about to, now both new cartridges have a faulty cartridge error message, I have put it down to the cartridges themselves and am returning them tomorrow.
Its a fairly cheap HP 3 in one and I am giving up on it, we worked out last night its about 18 months old which is really as long as I have had one of these last, they are made in china and not worth fixing unless its something obvious.

hmm I would be complaining to HP!! I wouldnt be giving up on it though, coz you said it was ok til you replaced the carts so I am thinking its something simple. But thats JMHO lol
I find that mine is not at all user friendly. I usually have to consult the online manual to do anything. I find it weird that I have have the printer on when replacing carts, and have paper in there for one example!
but the flashing lights should tell you what the prob is. Bananas is on the right track. If anyone can sort it its HIM!!
He is worth his weight in gold :)
