How to reduce idfentity theft and other scams
There are a number of scammers posing as buyers (or sellers) to steal your identity.

Clues that you are being scammed:

- the buyer sends messages in extremely poor English.
- the buyer has just joined, has zero feedback and immediately buys multiple items from different sellers.
- the address seems wrong eg Sydney Queensland 2055
- the buyer asks for more details eg your phone number before payment.

You can reduce the risk of being scammed if you:

- check the address on realestate.com.au to see if the property is listed for sale. House listings are the main source of addresses for scammers.
- check the property on google maps to see if it actually exists.  maps.google.com
- check whitepages.com.au to see if a the person has a phone account.
- check facebook.com and Linkedin.com to see if the person has a profile

Here are several ways to protect yourself:

- use a PO Box if possible.
- create a separate Quicksales only email address.
- open a separate bank account for your Quicksales transactions. Only maintain a small balance to cvover fees.
- only use your first initial when providing bank account details eg J Citizen not Jane Citizen.
- only communicate through the Quicksales message system wherever possible.

Always leave negative feedback and report non-payers and scammers to help protect other Quicksales users.

I used to get a lot of customers ringing up concerned about this when i worked at Aus Post.
We used to advise put a lock on your letterbox.  Thought it was silly til last week i saw several letters containing personal documents scattered down the footpath in a fairly affluent area.

There are quite a few scams running around on Gumtree at the moment too so be careful if you go on there especially if looking for jobs that are too good to be true.

Another one that usually does the rounds at Christmas time is the USPS one pretending you have a parcel to pick up at the PO.

Touch wood, I havent had a scammer for a long and I hope to keep it that way too. As for fakes,  I wont buy the rolex watches or anything on here that has an expensive brand name on it.. I prefer to go to the local strand bag shop and buy my goods there. cheers marie

Thats what worries me about these things..But let me ask you this question though..If the seller stated that the item was a copy, (reduced their costs) and not stated that its the real genuine thing, do you think that they would have more success in selling?? cheers marie

That would still contravene quicksales listing policy bratsnthings , as the seller ticks the listing agreement to say they have read the policies and the policies state you cannot sell counterfeit products.

Rolex takes it very serious when their TradeMark is illegally copied.

If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.......

Check feedback, i personally wont buy a high price item with someone that has 0 feedback.

Make sure you ask questions if you are unsure. Does the seller answer promptly? If a seller doesnt answer questions i avoid as well. Thinking what would they be like if i ever had a problem?

Hi.
NO. - Thats  Illegal - against State & Federal and International  Laws
and also against Q/S listing Policies

we sign ( tick a box ) stating we will obey the laws of the land and OZtion / Quicksales rules & T.O.S.

Real L.V.  & Rolex and Real D.G.  don't come cheap.
In fact MOST top end items don't even ALLOW online selling

stating it's a copy it not allowed
It's not a "harmless" crime- in fact, the Federal Police have put ads out stating that Counterfiet Perfume has human body fluids in them-
Profits from CDs & Movies have been used to fund bombings - similar to Bali
( against Aussies - and Aussies are buying this ! )

Please don't think it is OK & harmless-  as it is not and there's plenty of Federal Police TV ads stating this fact.

I agree with the OP
Leave Feedback
File INR or NPB reports

if it's too good to be true-  then, it's probably not true !
PLUS

NOW - On TV  we have the "paycard"  which you just scan
There's an item that COPIES cards - by a man walking past you
HOW TO STOP THEM GETTING THIS INFO ???

WRAP YOUR CARD IN FOIL ( seriously )

Not your head ( as Martians aren't invading- ha ha )

If you wrap a section of your wallet in foil- or the card- the scanners cannot penetrate the foil
and your card cannot be copied

as we are talking about ID theft- I thought the idea of the foil- an important thing to mention
It was on ACA last week
they showed 1 man walking along the train or airport area- scanning peoples cards from their handbags- wallets- jackets
It made a little beep sound when it got it - he had dates / names / address / card numbers/ details & DETAILS
all from a little scan

FOIL  will prevent that
regarding online buying and selling-
Common sense is important
you wont get the earth for 10c

check their F/B - their ratio - their verification and if they do have unsatisfieds - read them and see if it's just one member
all this info is available and Q/S - IMO - gives us these things to help us have a safer experience
cheers :-)

It's pretty easy to spot a fake Rolex . unless it's an authorised retailer and you can afford to pay no less then $12,000 and upwards  then your guaranteed it's a fake

As the ever so friendly sellers on the KL markets will tell you $30 is about max for a 'genuine copy'

I looked them up over the internet and I saw just  that .lol!  It would take a good few months just to save for a real rolex lol

I opened this thread and was immediately attracted to the red text. Within 2 seconds it was made quite clear to me that this is an eBay thread which the OP hasn't bothered to take the time to correctly modify to make it appropriate for quicksales members.

We do not have negative feedback here... we actually leave ratings... and in leaving these ratings we have the option of selecting "satisfied", "neutral" or "unsatisfied"... there is NO option of "negative" here, as the OP suggests.
