How to get that flawless look? Foundation?
Hi Everyone :)

I am not great with make up, I use the basics, every now and then...

I want to learn how to get that flawless look, which foundation gives that flawless look. I have experimented with some liquid foundations, but it just doesnt give the look I want. Is it a powder I should be using? or maybe a combination?

Just wanting to know your thoughts before I purchase anything.

I love this flawless look, like the woman below:

Goodluck

Lancome, alright, I will have a look for that one... Maybe I have just been using cheap brands, I've found the Australis brand I have at the moment just wears of or 'melts' off so quickly...
Thanks! :)

It also comes down to your skin care.  Make sure you drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated.  Also a good cleanser, toners and moisturiers is a must.  If you don't prepare your skin it doesn't matter what foundation you use.
Hope you find one that works for you.

I am sorry to all those that think all flawless looks = airbrushed/photoshopped but its simply not the case.

I wear mineral foundation powder ( loreal is good so is nude by nature and id bare escentuals and am about to trial thew new improved version which is not launched yet of the avon one and I get comments each and every day from people ( including strangers )about my makeup and how flawless and even how airbrushed it looks. yes I have worked with cosmetics for over 20 years but it does come down to routine but as the other person says a good skincare routine too, not absolutely regimented though.

I will ( dare i say never ) go back to wet foundations, they are the best thing since slicced bread.

Foundation also is the basis of good makeup, like a building if the foundations arent right then the rest more tha likely wont be so spend a little more time on the foundation and then sweep over your colours.

The key to minerals is getting the right sahde otherwise if you use the wrong one it will look awful. Also use a good kabuki brush or flat tipped brush and also go to you tube if you want to watch some great tutorials on your application, oh and the brush that comems with the nude by nature is very good too.

One last thing when using minerals dont use heavy moisturisers just light fluids and realy let it sink in properly too because its a powder you are putting over it and the minerals beco0me a part of your face.

A good mineral is also very light to wear and not heavy yet you can get a light to heavy coverage and it still look and feel very light.

Good luck and if you have any questions I am more than happy to help with what I know.

That picture has most certainly been airbrushed.

There would be very few people that would have skin like that regardless of which and how much makeup you put on.

I agree that photo may well be airbrushed but as i said above that you can achieve this look with a good mineral and of course some very good skin under it, not all flawless looks are airbrushed and with a good base a very good model/flawless look isnt that hard.
A lot of people dont realise until they use a goo dmineral just how great a look they can get with it, I know i was skeptical until I used it and now wont go back.
If you have a priceline near you go in and ask one of the consultants to match up for starters a loreal one for your skin and get them to try it on you before you buy, you will be gobsmacked at the difference oh and this also helps you get the correct shade ( the wrong sahde can look tragic ) There are so many good brands and its worth the few extra $$ you pay for them too.

One thing some may ( or may not ) realise is, if you have a good look at her face, yes she young and probably airbrushed but she is fair and not over cooked int he sun or airbed or overly spray tanned all these things contribute to ageing you instantly. If you are light to medium shade skin always go for the exact shade if you can get it (  i never have been able to get an exact match ) otherwise go for one shade lighter and then contour your skin, it will take years off you and give you a better flawless look too. Keep the comtouring ( or bronzing ) to the outside of your face and keep the light on the middle.

I will later on find some very good tutorial links on you tube for these looks for you later on as I have to go out.

Flawless makeup starts with good skin. You start with your basics of using an exfoliator, cleanse, tone and moisturize.
Exfoliating the skin, gets rid of the dead skin, so makeup wont look "flakey"
WIth moisturizer, use one for your skin concern, for liquid makeup, it doesnt matter if you use your moisturizer thicker either, you dont need to use it thin, or wait till its dry, like you do with mineral makeup.

Yes, the image HAS BEEN PHOTOSHOPPED!

However, IMO, mineral foundation is no better than liquid, mineral is just hyped up right now.
I love liquid foundation, its been around for a long time, so you know, its never going out of style.
What look are you wanting? Radiant, Matte, Luminous, or something else?
THere are different foundations and powders which can give different finishes.
The girl in the photo, would have started with a foundation base/primer over her moisturizer.
Next, I personally use a concealer under the eye lightly, and this is the time to use a color corrector if you need it for redness or sallowness.
Get a color matched to your skin, to know if it matches, it will basically disappear into the skin.

Of course she young and probably has good skin so if your 40 or 50 you are not going to look that good and it doesn't matter how much or what kind of makeup your kidding yourself if you think you can turn back the ages to look  flawless like that.

The fashion industry and magazines all air brush their photos to sell a product.

Thanks for all of the replies, I do agree that being a professional picture it will have been airbrushed, and I also dont look anything like her.

I was advised to try mineral makeup, but also thought it may just be the 'in' makeup item at the moment, but maybe I will give it ago. I have combination skin and find that liquid foundation sort of 'melts' off or waters away in oil areas, and then I get a dried out look soon after in my dry areas.
Maybe a combination of foundations may work for me.

Thank you all for your responses I will continue to try out different ideas.

If you go by the pics you see in magazines, you will end up a depressed woman........your skin will never look like that, because it's not a reality!!
ps: I use Eve Pearl High Definition.......I found this the best for me

you can buy foundations that are for combination skin, many brands make nice ones (I wont mention brands now, as my last post was reported)
Foundations for combination skin balance out your oilness and dryness, and yes, Mineral makeup is just whats trendy.
TO continue what i wrote ealier, but will take out links.
Shake your foundation bottle, and use a foundation brush, like a stipple brush  into the lid of the foundation.
Dot it onto your face, and start "stippling" it into the skin with dabs and swirls. You can use your fingers to finish blending.
I currently LOVE Makeup Forever face and body foundation. Its really light, and sweat proof, and stays on, great for combination skin..
To get her luminous look, she has used a highlighting product around the eye, on the cheekbone, on her nose, and on her lips over her foundation (this is also another product you CANT use over mineral makeup)

To finish her radiant look, she would have used a sheer powder, I love  powder swirled on with a big brush.
For color, she used peach powder blush below her cheekbone, white eyeliner on her inner eyelid, a natural mascara, and some peach eyeshadow to highlight her blue eyes, and finished with peachy lipstick.
This look really hasnt used bronzer, but you could add a small amount of powder bronzer over the cheek/nose/forehead.

You could get her blush look with cream blush too, use it directly over liquid foundation dotting it on with the stipple brush.
Follow with face powder.

Flawless foundations starts off with flawless skin! You really do need to look after your skin, cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising well. Also a weekly mask will do wonders. As will drinking LOTS of water!!!!!
When applying your foundation I reccommend applying fine layers of water-based foundation with a foundation brush  until you get the coverage that you requie then take a clean make-up sponge and press the foundation into the skin. Using a mineral powder over the top will not only give you a sunprotection factor of about SPF19 but will give a beautiful finish to the skin. Do make sure it is a really fine mineral powder (i love Inika or ID Bare Minerals) as the cheaper ones (esp Avon) can be quite thick which doesn't give you a nice natural finish.
Also do be realistic about photos in magazines, they are heavily photoshopped - if you have foxtel they had a show on recently about photoshopping on Lifestyle You. They showed this beautiful girl with great skin having her photo taken for a magazine cover with and without photoshopping and the difference is just amazing!

Don't forget the water!!!!!
