How cold is it in underground caves at Buchan, Victoria?
We are going to the Buchan Caves in Victoria tomorrow.
The weather is supposed to be about 26 degrees.
That's civil for travelling with kids Lol!

I'm sure I read somewhere that it is colder underground but I haven't been able to unearth any info regarding this.
Has anybody been? Or know of what it will be like?
The caves are lit, so there would be a bit of heat, I would imagine from the lights.
But whether they would make a difference is debatable.
I'm trying to work out what to pack without making like a pack horse.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi,

You'll love the caves; they are beautiful!!

You should be right with just a pair of jeans and a jumper and sneakers from what I remember (it was a long time ago when I was there) They turned the lights on and off as we passed through the cave as the heat affects the formation of the rocks. One of the caves has quite a few steps too. Don't forget the camera

Hi

I just did a quick search on Buchan Caves - they have a constant year-round temperature of 17 degrees C

I doubt that the lights would make much difference at all.

Have a great day - a beautiful spot to visit :-)

Yes take a light jumper for each person. The caves we visited in TAS were 9-11 degrees inside.

Jo, how did you find that? Lol!!
I googled and read soooo many articles .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .

Thanks for your replies
Yes, I think I'm looking forward to it more than the girls
They both have their DS Lites for the trip - hopefully no fighting Lol!
The camera was the first item on the list.
I'd better forget about the winter woolies - thanks for the advice.
I would've been the one carrying all the gear.

Aladdin - you're still making like a shadow?
Sounds like a love letter to Admin is called for, hehehe!
Haven't got a shotgun - will a quick draw flashlight and long legs do instead?
( not sure if they are for running or kicking - I'll make my mind up as I go  )

If it's hot outside, it will be cooler inside so shorts will be okay on a hot day.
The caves are great.
I like the McKillops bridge and there's also a Snowy river bridge near Buchan that has a lovely curve with the post and rails.

We just got home after having the most magical day!!!!!
Faaaantastic! I fully recommend seeing both the Fairy Cave and the Royal Cave.
( Not if you are a real big person though - not much room in some of the corridors Lol! They won't tell you that because of discrimination but honestly, you'd get stuck )
You also need a pretty good back as there was a fair bit of bending over to get through - mainly in the Fairy Cave and I'm only 5ft 7 (167 cms).
Temperature was a constant 17 degrees but the humidity sits at around 90%, so it was quite warm. ( we were all perspiring )
Shorts and Tshirt would've been quite sufficient.
It was amazing to see Mother Nature doing her thing!
The girls had a swim in the pool afterwards but at 12 degrees, it was a wee bit too chilly for me.
We'll definitely be going back

Kinda makes me want to go for a visit myself. I was a kid of about 13 when we went through there. It's something you never forget isn't it.

Oh, Pet-Mad! You are not wrong!
I took soooo many photos - I hope I can work out which way is up Lol!
So many stalactites and stalagmites!
The lights had been placed to really show them off.
Pity about the chicken wire fence in some places.
But I was able to fit the lens of my camera in a 'hole' so that it isn't in the flick - well that was the plan anyway.
I'm just waiting for the batteries to recharge for my camera.
Then I can upload them & see what I've got.
