How can this be done??

Okay just finished reading a book and it was the first in a trilogy.  Now I want the second / part 2 of it.
Checked it out on here for it.  Nope no ones got it.

Checked that other place and it ranged from 30 to more than double for it.  Don't want to really buy it there so googled it.
Found a couple of sites that sell books and they have it listed but not available.
More investigating and find out from publishers site that its for release on 02.04.12.

So got me thinking "How can it be listed over there" when its not available yet.
Checked it again and some are saying posting from UK and some are posting from Australia.

How the heck can a book thats not due for release for over a month be for sale with delivery promised in a week??

Edit.  I realise I'll have to wait for it to be released but its been bugging me for the last 24 hours about it for sale when it shouldn't be.

Maybe it's released in Australia on that date, but is already available overseas now?   For DVD's, you can buy them pre-release and they send them as soon as they come in, but I'm not sure if that goes for books as well.

Check the description carefully, could be a pre-order release, you order and pay now and it is shipped when it is available here.

Pre release ordering is what I found on one web site but not in the other place's listings.
It's just bugging me.  lol

If it is a pre-order and not mentioned in the sellers listing then they are probably hoping that they can stall the postage time or use the postage duration ie 45 days and hold of the buyers till they get their preordered stock. Not uncommon in both DVD's and Books.

I asked a seller here about a movie that hasn't been released here yet , and the seller assured me they had it in stock but it came from the UK where the release date was months before ours.
I was then told postage would be 21 days lol.

I'd wait for the release date if you don't want to be stuffed around.

Or post a title and a couple of us may be able to do a deal.

It could be a US date.  They put the month first, then the day, then the year, which would mean 02.04.12 is 4th Feb 2012.

I'm not saying this is the case but it may be a possibility if the publishers are in the US.  The fact that it's shipped from the UK may not mean anything as some books would go from the US to the UK to be sold.

No it listed as 02.04.12 on the Australian site of the publishers.  Yes pete I will put up a wanted for it.  Someone might have it not listed here but can keep an eye out for it.

1) Publishers send out online prospectuses/information/images for books about to be published

2) They are in a format ready to list on the major online booksites

3) Some of the online booksites are hooked up to eBay (they usually have feedback in the hundreds of thousands and it’s not always complimentary)

4) Publishers no longer have the clout to impose embargoes on releases. In fact, they couldn’t care less.

5) New books are warehoused worldwide. You can buy from a U.K. dealer shipping from a U.S. warehouse or a U.S. dealer shipping from a U.K. warehouse. You might even find an Australian dealer shipping from an Australian warehouse, but there aren’t many left. You’ll probably never know.

5) So, you shouldn’t be surprised.

Hi i buy alot of books from overseas and alot of the time i can get them before they are released here in Australia. That could well be the case with the UK one.

As for the Australian ones as has been suggested maybe they are tied in with UK/USA book sellers.

Okay just had a look at my source. The hardcover version was available from last year (2011) and its available in paperback from March this year.

Yes Kiwi last night I thought of the hardcover versus soft cover.

I've put up a wanted incase someone has a decent priced second hand h/c one but think I might be waiting for it to come out to the stores.  Not buying from that place on principle.

My daughter (Misspickysbooks here on QS) buys a lot of books from O/S if they aren't available here, or release date is earlier OS. Sometimes items arrive well before the advertised publication date. I never could figure out how it was done, at least the replies here have given me some clues. She doesn't use bay site, the items are from other more obscure online sources & always arrive very promptly. Cheers, TTLG
