have you taken your unwanted gold jewellery to a gold buying kiosk?

I have a pair of 9ct yellow gold earrings from a well known jewellery store.

One of them is damaged, so I took them with me this morning & enquired at the gold buying kiosk.

Am disappointed to learn that the backs are attracted to the magnet [got other metal mixed in it] & hence she could not offer to buy them for the gold content.
Plus they're not stamped 9ct [which didn't bother me as I just thought they were not the right design / shape]

So a lesson learnt,  I shall be more discerning & ask questions [rather than just assume] next time I'm interested in buying earrings.

Hi
My mother bought a pair of earrings - almost $600 on "discount" from a well known shop

She hardly ever wore them- ( actually one time in over 18 months )
so gave them to me as a gift- I wore them 1 time ( my mother 1 time)
when I got them to wear for the 3rd time( my 2nd time) they were broken

I took them back to the jewellers- only to be told a week later- they cannot fix them due to the sapphires in them
when I open the bag they were in --  when I got home-
the biggest sapphire is missing & another lying flat in the bag

I took them back & complained to head office

they refuse to admit they even sold them & because I have no receipt & they were paid in cash- they say " we didn't stock these- you must have bought them at **** "
I have NEVER  shopped at that store - as they are cheap & nasty & have "sales"  which aren't real sales

I told them so & they still refuse to admit they are thiers and wont even comment on the missing sapphire or the loose one & told me to collect them

They are still there - I have not collected

not sure of my next step but I can tell you this much- will never shop there & anyone who mentions their name- I tell them  about the shop !

I told them their name should be "ashamed" - not what it is !!!
such a rip off & complete junk - IMO

the one time my mother wore them- was out & she went into that shop & the staff commented they were " their " earrings
Now- those staff aren't there & because over 2 years has passed - they wont even ask or look for them

I think ACA ot T/T  are my next option

cheers :-)

PS
re: buying gold- those stores sell WAY BELOW  what you'd get elsewhere like any jewellerys or any place that buys back gold
there's plenty that do

Wouldn't trust those places as far as I can spit them.

I took a few unwanted bits to see if I could get a bit of extra cash - total joke. They offered me about $10 for a bracelet, a pair of earrings and a pendent. Needless to say, I took them home again.  I think they're just a big scam.

these places were showed on ACF warning people that they are being ripped off and not to go to them. ACF did have a show about them at 1st until they found out more about them.
years ago I bought Mum a nice ring from a well known store, it needed re sizing they said they lost the ring, and offered a cheaper ring with a much smaller stone. it took a long time before we got anything suitable from them. so my advise to anyone...don't leave any jewelery at a store to be sent away. find a store that repairs on site. hopefully while you wait, take a photo of the item before leaving for repair.

The age old thing mention gold and they fly by nighters want it for nothing, This topic was covered in detail November last year,

Topic 378757

Topic 364794

The only thing that has changed is gold now is more expensive, and not that readily available as fine gold.

If all the investors that have bought gold certificates went to cash them in only 10% would get their gold. There is not enough gold in the world to honor all the certificates sold.

I think it depends on whose manning the shop

My mother took 2 bracelets in

one was broken and they gave her $76 for it - she was happy with that

the other one they offered her $80 - she said she wouldnt go ahead.  the bracelet was bigger and chunkier (bought at a garage sale for $2...LOL)

Anyway my brother said she should have taken the money and run.  she went back a week later and someone else was in there - they gave her $186 for it

How good was that ???   Makes me wonder tho would she have gotten more for the $76 one

 Hi Hobals

Why do you not just name the shop on the forum????

To all the others, I tell everybody, never ever sell your jewellery to the gold buying kiosks, you will not get what it is worth.  Shop around till you are happy with the price offered, or have the items melted and remade into something you will like.
