Has the "Visible" Watchers option changed recently?
I just added something to my watch list, but didn't see an option of whether I wanted the seller to be able to see my user ID or not. Is this no longer available, or an I just not seeing it?
This thread Buyers Watching is only a week old, and in it nara120 makes mention of "visible" watchers, but as a buyer I can't see how to select visible or not.

Thanks Ellen. I did do a forum search, but I missed that thread, and I also checked the "help" section but didn't find any explaination there either.

Here are the instructions for anyone else who's wondering.

You can be anonymous

when you put something on watch , go to your 'watching list' and find the item

on the RHS you can select      > add/edit reminder note > go

then the option to select the 'send a reminder note' and the option to
untick " " is there , confirm .
Now your ID is no longer visible to the seller

its a lot of rigmarole to go through isn't it?  No idea why they made the change, the other system was much simpler.

I liked it better before. Guess the programmers like to try new things though.

On average only about 10% of my watchers opt for the anonymous bit, if that is typical, I think this is a sensible move.  From both a sellers and buyers viewpoint, the ability to send and receive special offers to watchers is a great thing. Let's face it, people are always looking for the easy way out, so if it defaults to visible the likelihood is most buyers won't go looking for a way to become anonymous unless it really is important to them.  The option is still there, it just isn't right in your face like it used to be.  Who knows how many people might have stayed visible previously had they not been offered an out right up front?

The original default was to be invisible, that's what I liked best.
Obviously everyone has their own preference, and ultimately it's up to carsales to work out what they think will be most profitable.

Further to my thread that Ellen posted a link for (above - Thanks Ellen) I was contacted by both sellers of items I'd put on watch. I had intended to buy, but was cash poor & Paypal rich at the time I put the items on watch. In both instances we came to an arrangement & I bought sooner rather than later.

I was taking a chance that the items would still be available when I was able to buy. I'm wondering if this new watching method make shake some buyers out of their complacency & prompt them to register their interest by placing a bid?  I was fine with having the sellers contact me to do a deal. Cheers, TTLG

After clearing my watchers at Jan 1 and feeling very neglected for a week or so, I now have quite a few watchers, and surprisingly, about 50% of my January sales so far have been from watchers. (I add a note beside the item as new watchers appear,  so I know how long an individual has been watching, and the note stays with the item when sold, so I can see at a glance how many sales came form watchers).
