Yes in docklands

not far from the city couple of k's from the CBD (depending where in docklands you are of course)

accomadation anything from comfort inns to super luxury accomadation depends on your budget and where exactly you want to stay :-)

hello

well 1 person we r going with is on a budget, plus we dont need like anything 4 or 5 star as we wont be there much lol.

i only stayed in melb once like 10 years ago and stayed at vic hotel, little collins street, so was gona stay there again, but for the 5 of us, we need 2 sep rooms, so thought I would try get something that sleeps 5 of us in the same apartment sorta thing.

so somewhere like near all those streets, little collins, collins st, bourke st, etc. like in the city.

we would be catching taxi or whatever to harbour town shopping lol

i did see that first 1 u showed me, and it says only stay there thur, mon, tues, wed, sun nights lol and we only need fri and sat night lol

so do u think we should go a apartment like that instead of a hotel/motel?

Harbour Town is in Docklands.

I'm sure there are accomodation places there, but suspect they are 4 or 5 star.

Docklands is located on the western side of the city. Trams run from the CBD to Docklands, and a free bus service
also runs regularly to Docklands.

IMO Docklands is dead as the proverbial. It will be 10-20 years before this place is up and going. They need some attractions to get people to go there. The giant observation wheel is still in pieces.

There are heaps of other accomodation options in Melbourne. Check Quickbeds and Wotif. Or just Google: accomodation Melbourne.

We just returned from Sydney. Darling Harbour makes Ducklands look pathetic.

Thats what you will need to research sometimes the apartments can be cheaper than motels especially if there is 5 of you.

Ive always found comfort inns reasonable when i say with my family as well.

There are HEAPS of motels/hotels etc around melbourne that will suit budgets of all sorts.

Dont worry about the first one that was 5* accomadation and not the right days just one we had stayed in so could recommend.

but will keep searching, hard to google accomodation in melb for 5 people when hardly anything comes up

Cheekymonkey:
Yes, Harbour Town is the shopping precint of Docklands. Costco is also in Docklands. The CBD is the best option for shopping though. It's worth a journey to Ducklands though if you are in Melbourne. As I said, it will be 10-20 years before it has a soul.

here is a link to Harbour town, never been there to shop, plenty of good shopping in the city anyway. Docklands is only minutes from the CBD. There is a free circle tram that runs approx every 15 mins that does the full circuit around the city perimetre. It goes out to docklands and comes back. Try Bridge road, Richmond if you like factory outlets. Been couple of yrs since i went there but...... Also not far from CBD Get a tram from Flinders st, heading out Wellington pde which runs into Bridge rd. We booked reasonable accomodation in Melbourne for Oct. Self contained appartments. called  George Powlett Appartments. only minutes from CBD also, heres a link to there site , maybe worth a call for price. Need it now is a good site for accomodation you can look at too

Saville Apartments are fantastic Cheeky - well worth a look.  Think they are in exhibition street from memory.  Not in Docklands but in the CBD.  We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath family room which was perfect for us.

I tend to agree with black&white - Harbour Town probably isn't worth the effort - I was there a couple of months ago as my daughter's modelling agency is just across the road - dead!!   It was developed with the sky wheel  thing in mind - sort of built around it and since that was up and running for about 2 weeks and is now in pieces, Harbour Town has suffered.  A lot of shoe shops but they all seem to have the same stock and it was mostly the 6 inch platform/heel shoes lol, even the   Pumpkin Patch outlet shop wasn't worth looking at - I was very disappointed in the whole thing :(

Accommodation - there is a Quest in the Docklands and rellies have stayed in the one on Williams street - Think that was the one :)  was very nice and there were 5 of them.

I think an apartment style would be better if you all want to stay together as a lot of motels won't have any more than 3/4 people in a room.

hi,
i would stay in the city if i were you...and apartment might be a better option. as above, check on wotif or needitnow.

shopping:
- city (incl: melbourne central, GPO, QV building, fed square, victoria market, crown casino  etc)
- bridge rd for factory outlet
- Chadstone shopping mall
- vintage shops in Smith St.  (try Salsa classes @ Copacabana every thursday and sunday night..:)
- restaurants, cafe, shops in lygon st.
- South yarra (shops, fashion boutiques, cafes, restaurant, market)

enjoy your stay in melbourne
