Hair loss, could surgery 3 months ago be the cause?
I have just noticed I am loosing a lot of hair. It could have started a while ago, I have noticed for a while hairs on my  keyboard as it is black. I had a bowel operation in December and when I googled "hair loss" one of the reasons could be a traumatic experience. One of the links had a natural approach and I bought some Sillica pills. Aloe vera rubbed on your scalp every night helps too. I am 75 so should expect some hair loss but hand fulls every time I comb or brush my hair seems a bit excessive!

hi, apart from silica and aloe vera, i'd like to suggest that diet is important too: it should include green leafy veg., oats, coconut, dry fruits and nuts, cherry juice (as natural as possible) brown rice, onions, ginger - try to avoid or at least minimise animal protein, sugary and fatty food. Use the best organic chemical-free shampoo and conditioner that you can find - but if the problem persists or gets worst, see a specialist - all the best!

It could be connected with the surgery, after a car accident a few years ago I had lots of operations then my hair started to fall out, I was referred to a dermatologist who said that the multiple aneasthetics would have caused it,  My hair did eventually grow back but I still seem to lose a lot although I dont have any bald patches now, I am conintually cleaning out the drain in the shower and my hair is a lot finer than it used to be.   Not sure what you can do about it.

If it is caused by the traumatic experience (which I would expect), I suggest it would be best to treat THAT, the cause.  My suggestion would be to go and see the doctor and get referred to someone who can help you with that.  Hair regrowth should automatically follow then.  Treating the cause of any problem is always much more successful than treating the symtoms.

It probably is a trauma related problem, but another cause of hair loss can also be thyroid. I have Graves Disease and had issues with hair loss before I got it under control. I might not be that, but easy to check with a blood test to see if everything is as it should be.

THIS HAS 100% HAPPENED TO ME ON 3 OCCASSIONS!

I have long brown hair...so it's very noticeable when it starts falling in great amounts

First time was immediately after my Gall Bladder Operation

My partner went to wipe the hair away from my face while I was in the hospital bed. I kid you not...when I lifted my head...you could see more of my fallen hair than the actual pillow, it was that immediate!

Then for 2 months after the Op...it kept shedding.  I lost approx 30% of my hair.  I ended up cutting it into a shoulder length Bob style, to make it look a bit thicker

Next time was after my dad died...about a month later same scenario.. kept up for 3 months....

Last time was when I got a bad bout of Bronchial Pneumonia in November last year.  3 lot's of Antibiotics probably didn't help....out it started falling just before Christmas

So again I've chopped about 6 inches off, just to make it look a bit thicker!

Hair, illness and stress...a bad combination

Good news is it ALWAYS grows back...I bet you will start ot see what I call 'baby hairs', they are the new hair....you will have an army of them...all about an inch long...you just have to keep trimming your hair and eventually they will catch up to the rest of your hair...hahaha

Trauma, Stress, Illness and Diet are 4 main causes of this.

Ensure your diet is rich in Zinc and Magnesium - both essential for Hair and Nail health.

Yes Thyroid issues can cause hair loss.

Thanks for all the replies, I am glad you have given me hope that it might grow back. The traumatic expierence was the operation.I have never been sick before so it was a shock. The first operation was not a success and I needed a second one. I was in hospital for 15 days. All that time I had no healthy food, at home I am on a nearly all raw food diet and I grow all of them in my garden. But the diet after a bowel operation should have  no fiber so no nuts or raw fruit. I am slowly adding them to my diet, I have bananas and pawpaw growing, they are both good for your stomach.

Update, my hair has stopped falling out!!I don't know if it was the Aloe Vera, the Silica, zinc or Magnesium. All recommended by the forum members. Maybe it was time, as it is 6 months since my operation. Anyway, thanks again and I will keep taking those extra minerals and use the Aloe Vera.
