Getting your EL to work.
OK ... There are a lot of people like myself who are being frustrated by the failure of EL to function the way it should for them.
This message:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object
seems to feature a lot.
I also found another message appeared when I tried to close EL down:
An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format (exception from HRESULT:0x8007000B)
It appears that the problem some of us are experiencing is related to WIN7 32 bit & 64 bit systems.
Back in the older posts I found this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=5783
What I found interesting was:
Developers should chain both the 32-bit and the 64-bit MSI files with their applications and install both of them on the 64-bit Computer.
Now, maybe QS are not able to do this because of the variety of systems they have to write EL for .... Maybe they just didn't read the note. Who knows?

What I do know is that you need to download these:
(I just used a windows User Document file, then went to my Docs > Downloads to find them)
For 32 bit systems:
SSCE
ServerTools_x86-ENU.msi 1.3 MB
Download
For 64 bit systems:
download the 32 bit above then:
SSCEServerTools_x64-ENU.msi 1.4 MB
Download
After you have downloaded the SSCERuntime-ENU.exe file to your computer, locate this file in the folder you specified in step 2 above.
Double click the
SSCERuntime-ENU.exe
file to start the extraction process.
You just might find your EL behaves itself after this .....
Mine did

ej I have gone through all those steps but el still closes down after a few minutes so I have decided that I will just continue to do things as I have always done.
Admin gave me the same advice as you have given above but the only difference downloading that program made was that after installing it EL worked for about 30 minutes instead of 5.

And I've tried all that too - I can export, import, shift around, upload, down load, but I can't edit or list items - I just do it manually now - at least until Admin can come up with a fix for the problems.

As I mentioned in the beginning, this will only be applicable to those who have Win7 34 & 64 bit systems.
You still have to do all the other stuff like uninstall previous versions & download the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0.
My EL is now working fine and
I didn't lose any files.

Yep done it all and lost my files to boot! - must admit that was kinda my fault, switched from my dinosaur to my son's cast off as he had bought a new one that could handle his cert 4 in IT whatever it is that he is studying - thne windows 7 went off it's face, so he had to re install that and in between I forgot to save my files
But after all that I can't list anything new
and I've lost (or so it seems) all my listings for my winter stock and because it was wiped clean last week I can't even go back toa date when they were still stored on QS.... but meh, it will give me something to do lol
I gave it another go today and it laughed at me :)
