My girl used to love steamed zucchini, brocholli ( that spelling looks so wrong Lol! ) and sweet potato all mashed together.
No salt or butter added.
Steamed and mashed carrots & zucchini  too.

Edit: I just tried combinations that I thought sounded yummy.
Next time you are at the supermarket, check out the tins of baby food to get some ideas of combinations too. They have the suitable ages on them.
Have fun!

At 5 months old, your grand daughter would have been on solids only a short time so I would just check with her Mum as to what she is eating. Normally you give them 1 type of food for a couple of days to make sure they don't have any adverse reaction to it.
At this age they don't need gourmet recipes (thank goodness) so don't stress too much about it.
My daughter is 7 months old and loves Mashed Banana on it's own or with Avocado - very easy and no cooking!

Mine at 5 months was either on plain yogurt with baby cereal or avocado, bannanas or puree pumpkin.

Enjoy and don't forget the splash mat lol

At 5 months she's prbably still just on Farex or basic steamed mashed vegies or fruit. The recomendation now is not to start solids till 6 months so is she definately on them yet?

This website is fantastic. She has a few recipes on the site.  I bought the "New and complete baby and toddler mealplan" recipe book.  A friend has my copy at the moment but there are some fabulous recipes in it.  It is UK based and they tend to start solids at 4 months so you may find the recipes useful.

Note: If  her Mum has introduced her baby to solids then she probably feels that she  is ready for simple solids (pears, apples, carrot and rice cereal with expressed milk or formula) . I am not going to ramble on about this debate, I am just saying not to worry about people saying you shouldn't be feeding solids until 6 months.  There is sufficient evidence to say that it is fine to introduce solids at 4 to 5 months.  I introduced my firstborn to solids at 5 months as did many of the women in my mothers group.  I introduced my secondborn at 4.5 months. I believe that by 6 months a babies iron stores are almost depleted and therefore they need rice cereal with added iron at around 5 months.

Anwyay, the website is great and a simple gift that I often give to new mothers is a collection of recipes from all different sites.

Hope this helps, Carolyn

I actually read the other day that they had changed it back to 4 months, can'r remember where I saw it though lol   I alway used the jars and tins (bad mummy hehehe)

Check with mum I think - there may be things that she doesn't want to introduce yet.

Yes every few years they cahnge it from 6mths to 4mths to 6mths to 4mths......
Atm they are saying it is good for a childs cognitive development for them to experience texture early on. Don't know what that says or does for digestion problems but anyway.....
Ask mum, stick with single flavours (avoid mixing flavours at this age) and fresh is best, so veg and fruit. Squash what foods you can with a fork so as not to puree it as those textures are important (apparently).
Have fun watching the food fly! :)

There are soooo many great recipes out there for our little ones. My little one loves jap pumkin and potato mash...Something I found out recently is don't give them too much dairy! After a spout of teething where the only thing I could get down my little one was yoghurt (ie a full adult size tub of vaali in 4 days) it seems as though i've given her a temporary dairy intollerance :( so no more dairy for her for a while.

hi my little granddaughter is 5 months but she had a shakey start to her feeding ,but she has started on cereal in the morning and about 3pm she has a fruit in a jar, probably her mum will start her on mashed spuds and pumpkin, then when she is used to that every 2 weeks or so add another veg,no cauiflower as they tend to get wind most is trail and error but u r the nana and u will do fine as a nana of ten and one on the way (5 under 5) ,it will all come back to you lol

The World Health Organization has NOT changed its recommendation that babies are breastfed for AT LEAST 6 months (not 4 months), and then up to 2 years. Baby Led Weaning is the way to go, with introducing foods after 6 months.

they say breast  milk is the best but a lot of women feel uncomfortable ,and prefer to bottle feed and as a mother of five all bottle feed ,mine had no problems and my ten grandchildren all were bottle feed and starled solids at 4 months and all thriving ,so if u cant or don't wish to breast feed your baby will be fine ,as it is your choice
