Hi could be dust.

Are they genuine ones?  im told the fake ones some seem to have a limited life. I know someone who brought some "non genuine" ones and they only lasted 2 weeks they are made from cheap inferior parts

As suggested blow on them and the console and see if that helps, if they are genuine depending on the age take them back to the shop they should last a long long time.

On the screen when he turns it on it just shows up in red a "question mark and the word Menu" and thats it and no games will come on?

As mentioned are they genuine games ? If they are bootleg ones it happens thats why they are cheap.

Just had a thought here, have you tried other games in the console as well? are all the games saying the same thing? has the console been dropped?

I'm sure 'my-willow' will be happy to help you as she seems an expert with fake games :)

You may need to take it into one of those game shops.
I was in there one day and a lady had the same problem with her sons game.
The guy in the shop took the cover off and there was like a reset button.
Other than that I can only suggest blowing in the ga,me slot.  I've seen my kids do that.

Hope you get it working again.
