Double check your Paypal payments
I've had two buyers overcharged by Paypal for postage in the last few weeks.

The postage was correct on the invoice but when they clicked the Paypal link it added and extra $9 postage on top of that so I've refunded both buyers the $9 but it shouldn't be happening.

So buyers double check that you aren't being overcharged by $9 (which seems to be the magic number) and sellers watch out that your lovely buyers haven't paid too much as it is easy to miss.

Just a thought.  Maybe the magical $9 is because pp is american and to post to america now you have to pay that extra 9 bucks security on items.  So their adding it automatically.

Yep, there is a $9 surcharge on parcels going to the US if they weigh over 1lb (about 454g). This is to cover the cost of the extra secuity precautions on such parcels coming into the US from OS.

Was your buyer by any chance in the US?

Thanks for the warning, I have received 3 PP payments recently, but it never happened.....will keep an eye on that though.

No both times the buyer was Australian and no Paypal shouldn't be adding the surcharge as they have no way of knowing how much it weighs and frankly its nothing to do with them.

I think its just a coincidence that it has been a $9 overcharge. Anyway they shouldn't be taking it upon themselves to add postage at all.

Have you contacted paypal about this so they are aware of it and can at least do something about it ?
Sounds like some kind of glitch to me, sure they aren't owned by quicksales?
hehehehehehhe

I can't see how the qs Invoice system would allow for that , and PP can't adjust this in it's own system unless perhaps the purchases were through eBay and the buyers were registered as US eBay members (still in AU)  ? Either way I've never heard of PP adding their own charges but certainly something to keep an eye on.

Purchases were through quicksales. I haven't sold on Ebay for years.

Considering that there have been some very recent major changes to the PayPal site... are you certain that your preferences haven't been changed to add a shipping charge to your transactions... perhaps you may have even added a default shipping charge yourself by mistake... I think you should go and check

Directions:  Log into PayPal "My account" >> click on the "Profile" link >> in the left column, click on "My selling tools"... then scroll down to the bottom of the page and under the "Shipping my items" heading, click on the "update" link.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "Clear Settings" button... make sure the check box is unchecked next to "Click here to allow transaction-based postage values to override the profile postage settings listed above (if profile settings are enabled)."... then click on the "Save" button.

This will remove any shipping charges that PayPal is adding to your transactions

Thank you BMCS there was a mystery $9 in those settings which has only appeared in the last week or so and is only added to Quicksales invoices. All sales going through my websites aren't having that issue so it must be something to do with the Paypal site upgrades.

Hopefully fixed for me now but worth others keeping an eye out in case it happens to them too with the upgrades.
