does anyone use Skype

What type of microphone and camera did you purchase?
Any tips on what I should be looking for would be appreciated.

Hi,
I use a cheap Logitech Webcam with an add-on microphone. No problems at all

We have it on the laptop and just use the laptop camera and microphone.  It's good talking to friends but do remember using the video chews up your monthly allowances / internet plan.  We generally just talk to friends. 

Also after having it for nearly 8 months we're now just beginning to get a lot of requests for contact from people we have no idea of.  So we just ignore / delete / refuse them as per normal spamming.

ps.  If it helps as to the above remark about cheap logitech.  They might be cheap but we have found them to be the best.  Wireless keyboards, mouses so if the camera's are the same you shouldn't have a problem with them.
