COD
Hi

Just wondering if anyone who has used AP's COD service could explain something for me.

When I look at the fees on the AP website it says:

Postage fees $8.05 + postage
Collection fee $11.30 + postage

Does that mean the seller pays the $8.05 plus postage and, as a buyer, I would reimburse that + pay the price of the item + pay the collection fee plus postage again?

Thanks

The seller pays nothing, all the fees are paid by the buyer on collection.  Many sellers will not use the service though because if the buyer refuses delvery, the seller is liable for all fees including return post.

So I guess it's an either/or thing:
if the postage is paid at the seller's end then the fee is $8.05
but if the postage is paid at the buyer's end the fee is $11.30

COD is designed so that the buyer pays all postage and fees at their end, the sender does not have to pay a thing .  You can use it purely for the postage component, or for both item cost and postage, the fees for collection and return of item cost to sender are additional.. It's an expensive service, and as I said, it involves a risk to the sender as if delivery is refused, the parcel is returned to sender and they are then liable for all costs.

EDIT> If you pay for the item by PP or transfer, and ask the seller to send COD, then when you collect the parcel you pay BOTH the postage and the collection fee.  If the item cost is included, there is an additional handling fee for AP to accept the payment and return it to the seller.  This is also payable by the receiver, but if they refuse the parcel all of it comes back to the seller.

 Let me make this simpler.

Scenario A - you buy an item from the seller, pay for the item only, and ask the seller to send the item COD.

The seller takes it to the PO and sends it COD and they pay nothing.  At your end, you are charged $8.05 PLUS the normal postage cost.

Scenario B - you buy an item and ask the seller to send it COD and agree to pay for the item on collection.  The seller sends the item COD stipulating the amount to be collected representing the purchase cost.  At your end you are charged the purchase price PLUS $11.35 collection fee PLUS the normal postage cost.

It is expensive for the buyer, and risky for the sender.

Thanks for the scenarios, boo .... I finally got it!

My options are bank deposit or COD (I have checked to make sure the person does mean COD and not cash on pick up).

The cost of the item is below the price I was prepared to pay so I think the COD is the way to go.

Just one more question ... can prepaid satchels be used, I wonder. Probably not, so I may have to factor in cubing.

I believe COD to apply to hand addressed parcels & boxes only, not satchels. Cheers, TTLG

AP offer two variations of the COD service.

Version A:
Buyer purchases, seller ships, buyer pays post office cash for:
1. Purchase price of goods
2. Postage cost
3. Collection fee.
Post office then forwards purchase price of goods to the seller via the nominated method.

Version B:
Buyer purchases, pays seller for goods, seller ships, buyer pays post office cash for:
1. Postage cost
2. Collection fee.

Potential additional fees for sellers:
Statement of delivery fee: $2.35
Returns: $16.50

Thanks everyone ... I'm still not sure what this option:

Postage fees $8.05 + postage

is about ... but I've done my deal ...
