Change of postage costs.
Hi Everybody
This is the first time l have ever had this happen to me when buying on here or Ebay.I wanted to buy 3 items instead of 1 so l asked for a postage quote ,was told $11 as soon as l paid another invoice from seller asking for another $5 for extra postage. If l had known it was going to cost that much in postage l am not sure l would have bought the items l know its only $5 but  l would  assume that if you send a quote for postage that is the amount you must charge or is the seller entitled to add what they fancy even after they have quoted a certain amount?.

As a seller i would never do that and as a buyer i would question them on it.  Had one try it on me so i got the original email for the first price they stated and forwarded that to them reminding of the original price they quoted me.
Just ask to cancel the transaction if they insist on adding $5.

No they are not, however having said that when did you ask for the quote, was theseller aware that you were buying three items or did they think they were just quoting on one?

As a seller there is no way I would ask for extra postage after sending you a quote and I am not sure it would be allowed to ask for more after the invoice has been sent.

If you have paid the amount on the invoice I should think that that is all you legally have to pay.

You could contact admin and ask them the best way to proceed.

Boo512 ...The seller did know l wanted 3 not 1 because she already had the price up of $6 for one.
I have asked her to explain the extra postage ,still waiting for a reply.

General advice would be that it’s just not on. Ask advice of the seller.

Having said that, we need more info from you. How many invoices did you receive from the seller? Is it possible for the seller to post the three items at the same time? Did one of the invoices cover an item bought later?

Some sellers might not realise that you can withdraw invoices and issue new ones. (I learned that through these very forums, quite a few years ago now). Even so, there’s no reason why you can’t issue a second, or even third invoice with a zero postage cost.

So, what I would do, is send back to the seller a copy of both your original invoice, quoting $11.00, and whatever other invoice or message you received making it $16.00. Then ask for clarification and, if the higher postage rate is to apply, ask why.

There are protocols we should all follow, so be polite (but nevertheless inquisitive). And allow time for a reply. All you really want to decide is whether a seller is taking advantage of you and then you can decide whether you wish to go ahead with the purchase.

I can imagine one possible scenario: you buy three items and the seller thinks they’re all going to go in a 3kg satchel at $11.00. Then the seller finds that in fact they’re over 3kg and decides to charge you a further $5.00. No, that’s not acceptable, in my opinion. If I, as a seller, make a mistake, I wear it, and I think a lot of us here on quicksales have made similar mistakes! (And I’m sure nearly all of us will just put it down to bad judgement and make sure we’re not out of pocket next time).

hi,
sunni they cannot charge you extra postage different from the quote they gave you. even if they have made a mistake on original quote. you can either pay the extra $5 and put it down to experience or make a complaint. if I was you I would report them to admin otherwise they will do this to other buyers on here and this will drive people away from this site which is bad for everyone concerned.

*also you can request to the seller to mutually cancel the items if this cannot be solved

Just a thought, but is Sunni in Australia? I've had US & NZ buyers this week & had to change the postage prices to reflect the extra it costs to send to those countries.

Other than that I can't think of any reason not aready stated for a seller to up the postage price, especially as you already asked for & received a quote for 3 items.

Yes, excellent.

My experience is that you can expect that of sellers here. But certainly not of all sellers everywhere.
