Car Fridges
Do you have a car fridge?

What's your opinion?

The 2 people I know who have them have both had to have them repaired.

Interested before I fork over $1200

Car fridges can and do have their place.  $1200 for one seems a lot unless your buying one of the top of the range ones and it is capable of freezing also.

One point you should consider before any purchases is that car fridges can and do drain car batteries.  I have a few times gotten phone calls from drivers in our truck saying that they have a flat battery because they have left a fridge draining power when the engine is turned off.

Good informtion, thanks

I haven't looked for quite awhile so I hope I am pleasantly surprised and the price is less.
Just looking for a reasonable size fridge not freezer option.

Car fridges are great for long trips, I use an 18 litre car fridge when travelling from Sydney to Adelaide & it's keeps everything frozen or/& cold. The one I use is only a cheapy, it's like an esky with 2 small fans in front of it, nothing fancy or expensive, they really do work with no problems.

I have a Waeco CF40 (39 liter) and Its just on a year old. Its never had a problem but I wont be suprised if it does at some time (Even Rolls Royces break down). I use it as a beer fridge in the work shop24 / 7 and as a freezer when I go camping. I have it hooked up to 2 deep cycle batteries that are kept charged by a 120W solar panel (In other words it costs nothing to run). I do plug it into 240volts every now and again on overcast / rainy days but it will run 2 days or more on the 2 batteries.

When camping I use it as a freezer to freeze the gel ice sheets for use in the esky - where I keep my beer and items that dont need freezing and I keep my bait, frozen veg etc etc in the freezer.

I went Weaco because of price. Yup its got a plastic body (Engel have metal) so its lighter and it was way cheaper. I only wish I had this set up years ago ...just got sick of esky's and ice .....soggy bread and thawed meat and blood in the melted ice water.

I used to work in a factory making these & I know how many problems there were. We would send an order out & you could guarantee that over 60% of them would be returned as faulty. Obviously this particular company went out of business. I would recommend getting a known brand that has a warranty & good service.

We have one have used it a few times as have our son,I find for the amount of space they take up they don't hold much.
